Totally in your hands matey. Not sure I can realistically be there and collect bike before 9am. So depends what you class as early.
I assume I'll be parking in the big car park at the bottom and walking up the hill to shop.

I've only been up the supermorzine lift once, that's the on on the opposite side to the pleny isn't it? Sorry for daft questions lol.

I'll be in black and red DH short, red/black full face, blue black leg gets long jersey. Probably massive overkill and too hot, but trying safety over anything else.

I'll see if I can find out torico opening hours.

Super morzine opens at 9, rush hour is about 9:30 to 10;30 there and zore.

The lift is at the town end if the suspension bridge and takes you up opposite direction to pleney.

Have a great day. Sadly I am not going to make it down for Monday as we won't leave Deauville until later today or most likely Sunday and have to go back to Paris first. Hope to be there later in the week for a couple of days, will drop a note here if anyone is around and wants to meet up for a beer/dinner or a ride.

Safe drive Weeksy especially on the way back when you're tired and you will be 🙂 (cafine for the drive back)

Yes Super Morzine is the bubble the other side of town to Pleny down a little lane and past fhe water trough where its compulsory to take a photo of your bike, been there done that 😉

That Monday plan sounds ace. I could do with being back in town 4-5pm so a good chunk of that I am able to do
I think Torico opens at 8, I'm picking my bike up from there
Leaves plenty of time to get to the water trough for me. What about everyone else?

Torico may open at 8 lads, but I've got 3 hours driving to get there first so getting there, kitted up and loaded for 8am is optimistic

We'll wait for you. Tapping our watches and sighing. But we'll wait. Promise 😉

Edit : weeksy /others do you want me to get passes for you on Sunday evening and you can pay me back?

Do we have a roll call yet?

Confirm you're in below

We're aiming for 9:15-9:30 (but we wait for weeksy if he's late 😉 ) at the water trough in front of Super Morzine lift. There's a coffee shack nearby for early arrivals. I'll probably be there from 9

Try and sort your tickets (PDS 1 day pass!) beforehand or get to the caisse for 9

Everyone welcome.
I will be all in black, it's so slimming, and sporting 90% of a right hand.

Yes please Stoner if you wouldn't mind that would be great.

Due to Mrs Weeksy not attending I'll likely be earlier rather than later as I'm not bad at getting out of bed on my own.

Finally arrived. Tours to Morzine on a Bank Holiday might not have been the best of plans but hey ho, I've made it. Now watching Slumdog Millionaire (after sorting the rather small apartment's somewhat dodgy electrics) and drinking a chilled 1664. Bikes are re-built, all is good to go.

I'll be the bloke by the watertrough in a Hawaiian floral top on a Nicolai. The bike makes me look like I can ride. The top confirms otherwise.

🙂

850 km of traffic jams today. The worst weekend of the year they say

All in all about 45 mins to an hour lost in peage queues I suppose. Poor planning on my part.

Tomorrows crisis is to try to cash in last year's bonus points from my mutlitude of lift passes. Wish me luck.

Drove in from Geneva yesterday and there was zero traffic, should it have been busy?
Anyway, picking up lift pass today for Monday. I
Will be at the trough at 9am. I'll have a green ROOTS shirt on.
I'll just look for the other guys next to the trough who look like they are looking for other guys next to the trough.

I'm in 100%. 650 mile drive done in just over 14 hours yesterday wiped me out and I'm nursing a slightly sore head from wine . But the view this morning makes it worthwhile , see you @ 9ish. Oh and I'm literally opposite the ridge hotel

@jonty Geneva only an hour away and traffic focused on Frenchies to/from holidays plus bh weekend. Geneva -> Morzine not really on that route. Ambrose more affected with his drive linking into main North/South routes I think

Have a great ride guys. I'm back home now and missing it already.

Stoner - thanks for the tip. I took the family up Col de Graydon. Lovely walk... bit faster on the way down 😉

Enjoy the ride guys, I like the 'red' perspective in Chatel with road gaps and massive hucks etc... they look lovely as you take the chicken line and ride meekly past.

Till next time.

A

Weeksy, I've got your pass.

There's a summer fete on in town tomorrow so the one way diversion is in place. That shouldn't effect you if aiming to park at the big car park in the bottom of the valley if you come in from the town side.

Makkag makes x5. Nice sized group. Makkag, I'm going to be in the marmotte d'or around 6ish tonight for some cold ones if you fancy rolling down the hill to find it.

Good to ride with you ade. See you next time

Thanks Stoner. Partly due to overdosing on red meat, cake and beers yesterday I've not had a single beer yet today, although I may do so at BBQ time later. But I'm expecting to be pretty fresh tomorrow with a bit of luck.
I'm planning on getting up about 5 and jumping straight in car. So 8.30 hitting Morzine. Get bike and maybe a coffee and then ready to play.

How's the weather? Its insane over in Burgundy at about 30deg and I'm worried about over heating in full armour and FF lid.

What do I owe you for pass?

*Eddie Murphy voice* It's hat! Real hat!

Glorious sunshine today. Climbed to 2237m and saw my first marmot today. Happy happy joy joy.

If you're not planning on doing black dh or railing the reds really hard, you may want to dress accordingly, like me in a tutu and Frozen t-shirt. I just wear a non ff, but enduroish lid myself.

€26 for the day pass. And we'll get at least 10 lifts in the day, maybe even 15. Bargin really.

What are the plans for tomorrow? Potentially another 5 here if not too much climbing and technical blacks etc..

Just read the plans for tomorrow. What are the required skill levels? We're not on DH bikes and are happy with the blues and some of the reds here...spent all day today at super Morzine and yesterday at LG. Is there an estimated ascent in meters etc..

Yay- my bonus points got me a whole area day pass today :). Fun and frolics via Plenay, Chavannes and Nauchets lifts, spoilt with a trashed rear mech and wheel. All now fixed I hope. See you all in the morning, looking shifty at the water trough.

Makkag, you can also get the pass at the lift caisse for the supermorzine lift.

Tymbian
Skill level is low to middle-aged 😉
All routes have blue/green options, no one need do a red or above. There are red and black options for those that want them but all the options come out in the same spot.

Fwiw I ride a 4"fs with a racing Ralph on the front!

Ascent by lift will be massive, by pedalling it will be less than a few hundred feet. Slackers day tomorrow.

See you there Ambrose

Great stuff guys, liking the sound of the ride tomorrow.
I'll just be going for elbow/knee pads, undecided on FF or Trail lid just yet.
I'll be happy with whatever. I'll probably pick a couple of red options if they are familiar from the trip last year, but I'll be taking it easy really.

No problem Tymbian. If numbers at lifts get a bit much there's places to split into two groups and regroup later. See you at the trough if you read this in time.

I told you it was a good spot for a drink 🙂

Anyway- top day folks, many thanks. We are here for another ten days or so and still up for a Bourgoisie (Sp?) ride. I can fit three people and bikes into the Go Go Berlingo! for the shuttle. Looking at the map, if we ride from Les Gets there is a some amount of climbing that is unavoidable. If we don't shuttle/ taxi there is a whole lot more!

Morzine is one of them special places, with an instant sense of occasion. Even when approaching it as you climb the twisty mountain road it builds the anticipation inside you. Each town you pass gets more and more like a picture perfect snow type town. Morzine is the epicenter of this.
Even at 8am when 99% are still sleeping from a night drinking Mutzig there's still a bustle.

Climbing on the Super Morzine lift up you begin to grasp the scale of things, higher higher, then onto the Zore lift up and you're on the ridge between France and Switzerland.

In some ways the riding can be an anticlimactic aspect of it. They don't really do the manicured Rowan Sorrel type sweepy swoopy trails and that immediately puts you outside of your comfort zone. Throw in the bike being something you've never ridden either and its a struggle to start with.
But what it does give you is rocky, rooty, fast descents, traversing ridges and insane reds. They're so so so demanding.
We did the Swiss world cup downhill and the French world cup, they're just hang on and try not to die type of hard trails. But the sort if you did them more you'd know what you can't and can't launch off, but as a novice to it, you're just fighting your mind, your fear and trying to accept the bike is way better than you, if you can hang onto it, it will get you down.

Your legs are hurting, you hands are burning and your breathing is pounding in your head, but finally you reach the end and its over, well, for 10 mins until the lift takes you up and you hit the next trail.

You then end up at a beautiful little place on the side of a mountain where you sink a large beer flavoured glass of courage and do it again and again.

It was ace riding with a few lads who are head and shoulders above me in speed and ability, you try and pick up tips and lines, well, until they're out of sight that is.

The one standout from the day is that mountain biking wipes the floor with motorbikes for me. The adrenaline, excitement and fear factor, I just can't do that on a motorbike, sure, I enjoy riding my KTM, but not like I enjoy mountain bikes. I just can't push boundaries, limits and drive myself in the same way.

Met up with 9 random people from the www and had an epic day!

Massive thanks to Stoner and Ambrose for showing us stuff.

Massive thanks to the superstars for talking me into stuff and making sure I ended up safe!

Glad it worked out so well, dissapointed I couldn't make it. Weeksy good to hear you are back safely. IME my riding improves massively over a few days in the Alps, not surprising as I do more descending in a day than in many months at home and on much more challenging terrain.

I should be there before the end of the week and would definitely do Bourgesoie. There is the pedal in from the lake over a rutted cow path which is steadily up and a bit of a road climb in the middle. I am very unfit and I will manage. Ambrose if we could drop your car in Samoens that's perfect (so take two cars there and then return in one), either leave it overnight or take it round in the morning. We can decide on an exact plan but we could ride Samoens lift a bit too. There is a large free car park by the lift. Happy to ride together all day (fav trails in Les Gets and maybe "Stoner's col" above Ecrenanz) or just meet for that ride. As you are driving back you can ride it at the end of the day.

Will confirm travel plans shortly.

Thanks everyone for a cracking day out. Great to meet you all.

Mcbain I am so very sorry we missed you. I think I counted up to ten and then just rounded up. If you're around the while longer we might tray and catch up at the end of the week.

I will try and post some photos soon but got tied up with some work and am now en route to Italy. Back by Saturday evening so should be good for a bourgeoise ride. We have transport options.

Stoner we'll co-ordinate so you can join. I have flex on dates.

FYI will try and do my "usual" mini tour taking in Chamonix and Verbier. If anyone wanted to do a day in Chamonix its an hours drive although I think Brevent amd Flegre aren't taking bikes this August which is a pity. Les Houches has some good riding (eg Hughes Way, Pipeline, some vtt trails) if folk wanted to try somewhere different.
