[#390755]

what with being made feel guilty for being a heartless bastid and with people posting about not having a bike to ride, i thought about building a charity forum bike.
anyone interested and how could it work, the charity bit that is.
i have a xl hoss frame i will donate.

Any volunteers? Don't be shy!

Should have said that shop accepting donations will have a STW volunteer to collect/build there or at their home.

Can do. I am working at the shop until the start of April and will have access to the workshop after that (if the mechanics know whats good for them!)

Posting stuff to the shop FAO me will be fine.

So once we build this/these bike/s what then? raffle? Ebay?

Bearing in mind postage charges, can we not organise some sort of drop off via folk going on rides?

SSP - assume your shop is Cotswolds based?

If IHN is coming to Quantocks ride next week, I can bring stuff with me if he is able to pass it to you?

If that works, then I can get local folk (to me) to pass stuff beforehand.

Can we not donate to an STW/STW'ers that maybe STW Towers/or someone considers most deserving?

If its OK with Ton address for parts is:

FAO Alex
c/o Williams Cycles
82 - 86 Albion Street
Cheltenham
Glos
GL52 2SE

You can email me on singlespeedpunk AT gmail DOT com

We are open 6days a week so no packages will be turned away.

I can post a list of what we have on my blog so people can follow the build and donate what's needed. At this rate we might get a couple of bikes!

Alex - that's really kind of you.

OK - am happy to accept stuff from folk that can deliver to me in the Swinley Forest area and I can drop it off with IHN (Simon - hope this is OK?) on Saturday.

E-mail in profile.

Great idea ton... I'll be up for donating some stuff that would have otherwise gone on here for karma/free- only think is I won't be home for a few weeks. None of it would be particularly desirable stuff though- ok for a hack/pub bike, but not stuff that's especially valuable. I don't tend to go through kit very fast (touch wood).

Another idea might be, if as Taka says, there are loads of odd bits getting duplicated (and it's not feasible to build up loads of bikes) would be to have something like a charity list/pool of parts and people could buy individual parts. Dunno how this would be organised though, but it would probably work best for bits of low value that people would have put up on the classifieds for free anyway. It might be something that the mag people might be interested in, particularly if they could say "we raised £xxx for XXXX". Being seen to put something back* as it were.

Anyway, great idea, can't see anyone with odd spares around not being up for this, and I'll never let it be said you're a heartless bastid 😉

*Other tired cliches are available.

[edit- lots of posts came in whilst typing, ignore anything irrelevant above]

Did this on another forum last year and managed to build 2 decent bikes from the parts donated and raised a good few quid in the process. It wasn't without it's hassles though, mainly people donating junk and not doing what they said they would do. I work in a bike shop and would be happy to help in this project should it get off the ground. If it gets up and running, then just drop me a message ton should you want any help.

this is a great idea!!! There are a lot of different ideas going on on this thread though. if i may I propose that we make a list in takas thread of who can donate what in which areas, as i'm sure we can squeeze more than one bike out of this and maybe spread them out over the UK? for example i'm in the North West and i can donate so-and-so, and we could have someone building a bike in each area?
