i am planing on doing the hamsterley black route in the next few weeks & was wondering if i needed to take a map with me or is it a easy to find your way round?

tis easy to navigate & very short

Easy, if you want you can get the map off the internet or buy it for about 50p at the visitors centre. It's quite short so you may want to have a go at bits of the red and a play on the loop too.

There are some new bits being built but it's unfinished and I think officially closed but I went and had a peak. "looked" very good.

The black's pretty easy to find your way round. Make sure you have a play on the skills loop while you're there too.

If you ask at http://www.hamsterley-trailblazers.co.uk/forum/index.php, there might be someone about to show you the non-waymarked stuff, which is ace.
