I have a Specialized Allez which is about 6 years old.
On the last ride the seatpost broke (about 15 miles from home!) with a "tear" down the post leaving the bottom of the seatclamp loose in the tube of the seat post.
I tried to turn it around to make the broken bit at the front to take the pressure off it, but it would not budge.
I have now spent hours spraying lube and WD40 down it and trying to get it out with a mixture of rotation (with a massive plumbers mole grips) and hitting with a rubber faced mallet at the same time. I have also used boiling water on the lower part of the seat tubing to heat it more than the seat post.
The post will go back in the seat tube and moves very easily until it is pulled up and then it sticks.
I cant work out what is happening unless something has got between the aluminium post and the carbon effect sleeve (classy)
Any ideas on what has happened and how to get it out?
You need a blind bearing puller. Nip down to your LBS at a quiet time, equipped with a packet of Hobnobs and ask nicely.
Do any of these ideas help?
