So about a week ago I took delivery if a new (to me) set of wheels
I screwed the lock ring on just finger tight so I don’t lose it whilst I wait for sprockets to arrive
Sprocket landed today, lock ring is no longer finger tight,
Anyone have any tips / hacks / workarounds on how to remove a lock ring with nothing to hold the freehub still?!
TIA
Something soft (inner tube, bit of MDF) inside the jaws of an adjustable wrench.
Or cut an old small sprocket in two, wrap with a bit of old chain / end of chain whip and then use an adjustable wrench over the chain
Actually to be honest a few wraps of old inner tube will probably give enough purchase for fingers.
Or build an old inner tube whip styled on a chain whip but using a wooden spoon and old inner tube.
You do have a stash of old innner tubes don’t you?
Innertube was my first thought. Or some kind of strap. Basically, google strap wrench and try to cobble one of those together.
Unfortunately all of my adjustables or long nose pliers are too wide for the gap so that’s a non starter
I’ve a box of old road inner tubes from my roadie days, nice to see they might have a use after all
Good shout on the inner tube / rubber band / strap wrench idea, gonna finish my brew and give that a go
Cheers all,
Old inner tube did the trick although I think came close to breaking my fingers with tube wrapped around them whilst I turned the lock ring until it gave in
