Help...
Does anyone have any good suggestions on a resolution? The threads have gone on my Prophet (alloy frame) and won't re-tap.

I thought about binding a Hope BB (with replaceable bearings) into the frame using Evo-stick metal epoxy putty. Do you think this'll work?

Thanks in advance

get a frame builder or LBs to put a threaded insert in for example towards the bottom of the page

BETD or Argos in bristol (NO not the catalogue place) will ream out and then press fit in a steel sleeve into the bb shell. £55 last time I sent one to be done iirc.
edit £75 now.

A mate had the bb threads fall out of his prophet too! He sent the front triangle to BETD who put a helicoil in it, and it was just fine afterwards. I forget how much it was, but it was quick and vertainly less than the cost of a hope BB.

FWIW, would it be difficult to push out the bearings on a bb with the cups in situ without dislodging the epoxy-ed in bb? I mean, this is basically like changing the bearings on a bb30 in a carbon frame isn't it?

Thanks folks, I'll give Argos a call in the morning.

julianwilson - that was my thoughts too. A homemade BB30 🙂

Interesting you mention your mate, the BB was an XT Hollowtech II and was fitted by my LBS. Wonder if this is a fault with the prophet? Cannondale have a lifetime warranty on the frames so might even try the warranty route.

Raceface Diabolus has longer threaded cups than most bottom brackets. I've seen a few of these used to save a frame where the first part of the threads is gone.

Chugg08, his was an xt bb but he fitted it. Saint also have a longer driveside threaded bit I think, but if it has fallen out once, the extra three or four threads engagement you get over the xt one will not last long!

You don't have to do anything to your frame.

SJS Cycles have these threadless BBs if you can use a square taper.

wonder if someone does an external cup version like the KCNC press fit that screws together from each side?

twas me julian was talking about, when i spoke to the guy at betd he mentioned he had done lots of them on prophets so would seem some sort of fault. the bonded insert that was put in was brilliant though.

mine was in for quite a few months then just one cup decided to fall out whilst riding along, looked inside and no thread whatsoever! can't remember how much it was to fix.

Carl, sounds like mine. I noticed a wobble on the crank - when I removed the BB it was almost smooth. Think I'll try my luck Cannondale first.

How long did / has the repair lasted? Looks like its £60 per side at BETD or £75 for both at Argos.

Chugg08 - did you ever try cannondale for the warranty? How did you get on....Was there a known issue? My prophet bb has worn away too, its only done 1500 gentle miles and on its original bottom bracket. The warranty company seem to deny there is an issue.

whitenift - yeh, Cannondale were excellent. It took a little time but they replaced the frame in the end.

I took the bike to a Cannondale dealer and they did the rest - it was a little bit more complicated because I'd bought the frame in Canada so needed to work with Cannondale North America, but to be honest CSG / Cannondale Europe were helpful in offering advice.

Because of the service I ended up buying a Cannondale Road Bike (Supersix) when upgrading my old one.

Betd long bb and ditched the frame (bb threads was the last straw)
