My Orange Clockwork 20th Anniversary Edition, number 194 of 200.
Tora forks, Chromag Fubar OSX bars, standard Orange stem and seatpost, FSA headset, Deore brakes, Truvativ Firex cranks, Deore front mech, SLX rear, WTB Speed Disc rims, Rubber Queen 2.2 tyres, SDG Bel Air saddle, SPDs
[img] [/img]

Also took my road bike. Trek 1.1 alu frame, Shimano front wheel, Mavic Ksyrium rear. Sora rear mech, FSA cranks, Tiagra rear shifter, 105 front. Deore 12-32 cassette. Selle Italia saddle, Bontrager headset, seatpost bars etc. Schwalbe Lugano tyres. Had just spent £200 plus having it fettled and replacing bits.
Old photo from last year before spending on it.
[img] [/img]

Bike shed forced some time between 11pm and 7.30am this morning. Quite surprised at how much this has p***ed me off, particularly the Orange which I've had for years and was kind of special to me.

Any sightings, news etc, be great if you could PM me. Have put on twitter and arsebook but if anyone can spread the word I'd be really, really grateful.

Cheers

Matt

I remember your posts fieldy. Crazy how much it affects you. I've been burgled before and lost TVs etc but even though this was from the bike shed outside it's p***ed me off far more.
Neither bike is worth a great deal but they're mine and in their own way they're important to me.

Matt!!! I'm gutted for you. If they were in your shed, be aware the thieves will probably wait for an insurance replacement to appear before helping themselves again. I liked your orange 🙁

What makes you think your house has been cased Woody?

Someone loitering round the back of the houses, claimed to be window cleaner but wasn't any of the ones we use. Scarpered pretty quick when challenged by one of the neighbours.

All insured although I reckon I'll struggle to replace the Clockwork.

I thought things were pretty safe (nothing ever is I know as some of the horror stories on here have shown) and if they want them bad enough they'll get them but I've had a think about how I can do better and have worked out something very, very secure for when replacements arrive or if I'm lucky enough to get them back!

Have to say the police have been good. They have pictures and full details of the bikes and all components etc. They regularly check second hand shops etc and the pictures will go on briefings.

Fingers crossed. Thanks for the support folks.

What security did you have in place Matt? And how did they break in?

I would have thought the Orange would be pretty difficult to sell on. Might it turn up dumped somewhere?
My mate has a similar one in his Dad's garage, I didn't know they only made 200.

Actually, his might well be older as I doubt it has a rear disc mount.
Did they do a similar paint scheme for the 15th anniversary?

Google seems to show his as a 1998 10th anniversary model.

Alarmed bike shed. Decent locks. Door forced but alarm didn't go off, not sure why. I shall be increasing the security in future. Sad but you learn by these things. Having said that there have been stories on here and elsewhere of ground anchors and the like not being enough. Have 'negotiated' the bikes coming inside the house with the other half 😉

See if you can get some pics up in local bike shops as well or maybe even behind the counter in case someone brings one of them in to be fixed etc.

We share a drive with our local school and their CCTV picked one of them up wheeling the road bike away at 2.45am. Cameras aren't designed for night vision so can't ID from the footage

Insurance have put me in touch with a shop they use for replacements.......no further comment for now 😉

Back home....
[img] [/img]

And yes, the home hub is out of date and the floor needs a fresh coat.

There are some decent people left in the world. Found at Dewsbury Market. Insurance and police aware. Completely stripped and, if you look closely, you'll see they decided to chop the rear disc mount off.

Thanks for all the kind words and the lookouts. Greatly appreciated.

why would you jut brake mounts off?

Hopefully someone can sort you out a new mount.

I thought that too. Maybe because they we're none the wiser? Trying to make it less recognisable?

Glad you got it back! Guess they cut the mount off to make it less like the one stolen?

I'm sure you'll be able to get a new mount welded on and get the rear triangle painted.

Cutting the disc mount - WTF? That makes no sense! 😡

I understand that a lot of times, thieves steal the bike to strip and sell the parts. But a brake caliper attached to a sawed off chunk of bike surely would raise suspicions... 😯

That would f@ck me right off... To have your bike stolen and get the frame back ruined.
I'd be inclined to find the little sh@ts..

think i'd rather not have it back! Will the insurance payout now as frame ruined?

Already paid out. Have to 'negotiate' a 'scrap' price for the frame. To be fair the insurance company (Axa) were very good.
