Hi all,

Unfortunately I had my rigid SS, Santa Cruz Highball stolen from my garage last night in Bath. I know it is unlikely it will resurface but can those of you around Bath and Bristol keep your eyes peeled for this bike:

[img] [/img]

Full details below along with identifying features are below but the main identifying feature is that it is a high end rigid singlespeed Santa Cruz which isn't too common in itself (normal SC's are of course 160mm oversprung 😉 )!

It is (was) my only bike in getting back in to riding after some time away from riding so I'm naturally gutted. My neighbour who rides regularly had his garage tampered with too but nothing else on the street so it looks targeted and they didn't take any of the lower value bikes or other kit right next to this SC!

Anyway, thanks in advance and have a great day, Daniel

----------------------------

Main identifying features:

- Light blue Santa Cruz aluminium hardtail frame with all gloss black Kinesis rigid fork and 32:20 singlespeed setup.
- High end, light spec is quite unique in itself for a bike of this type, so if you see a light blue rigid SS Santa Cruz it is a good chance it is mine!
- There is a large chip by the "C" on the downtube and black scratches on the top tube. There are Lizard skins carbon leather patches on the top tube to protect the frame from brake levers in a crash, and clear protective tape on the headtube.
- The rigid fork is distinctive because I have a lot of foam under the brake cable to dampen noise and have black vinyl covering the branding of the fork so it looks all gloss black
- The right ESI grip has deep scratches where it got caught in a bush
- The Tune Speedneedle saddle (yellow kevlar rails and carbon shell) is pretty uncommon

Spec:

- Santa Cruz Highball (light blue, large, aluminium)
- Kinesis Maxlight XI QR rigid fork
- Cane Creek 40 headset
- BBB Ultraspace carbon spacers
- Chris King top cap (black) with Ti bolt
- Carbon Ti expander
- SRAM XX1 Eagle GXP cranks (has a 6mm offset 32t chainring instead of the standard 3mm Boost)
- Hope GXP BB (black)
- KMC Z610 HX chain
- Shimano XT brakes with shimano rotors and Ti bolts on levers/ calipers/ rotors
- KCNC rear brake adapter
- Surly 20t cog
- Charlie the Bikemonger silver spacers
- Charlie the Bikemonger silver lockring
- Hope Pro 4 Straight Pull wheels (black rims, spokes and hubs)
- Bontrager XR4 2.3 front tyre set up tubeless
- Bontrager XR Mud 2.0 rear tyre (well worn) set up tubeless
- Kalloy Uno stem (black) with branding removed and ti bolts
- Easton EA 70 black aluminium bars
- ESI chunk grips
- Hylix carbon seatpost (electrical tape marking the height)
- KCNC seatpost clamp (black with gold bolt)
- KCNC Ti wheel qr's (silver)
- Tune Speedneedle saddle black (highly distinctive and rare due to the yellow rails and mimimal padding)
- Look X-Track pedals (bolts on one side are painted black as I had a favoured side to clip in to)
- Garmin mount on the stem
- 2x Tune Wassertrager bottle cages which fit conical bottles

It was Combe Down

I've had a wander around the area but I reckon it was chucked in a car as there are only a few footprints and no bike tracks on our muddy back road. The could have come from anywhere if they were in a car I guess. They just smashed in a very sturdy, thick wooden door so pretty well prepared sadly.

As I say, I went to give my neighbour who rides regularly a heads up and he was sure everything was normal but came round later to say his garage had been tampered with but it must have taken them too long so they moved on.

I had other bikes (wife's), wheels, frames... all sorts in the garage but only this SC I ride was taken which leads me to think it must be targeted. Likewise with the other chap having his garage tried. No-one else rides regularly on the street or has valuable bikes and no-one else seems to have had any problems. Just the two of us out regularly on higher end bikes 🙁

If I get a new bike sorted or find this one then I'll have to join you guys for a long overdue group ride Llama 👍

That sucks, Will keep an eye out in Bristol. Any idea how they might have known to target you?

No idea, but odd to only try for two higher value bikes in the one night and not touch any other garages on the street. The only thing we have in common is regularly riding from home (don't drive anywhere for a ride for example). Also odd that only this bike of mine that has been going out regularly was taken. My wifes shiny carbon ex pro roady with deep section tubs and a Hi-Mod Cannondale Scalpel frame were next to the bike taken but left. May be local chancers, who knows.

I'm tempted to set up a nice den of Rotweilers in case they fancy coming back for those other bits 😀

this site helped me get reunited with my stolen bike

https://stolen-bikes.co.uk/

(was being offered as a swap for someone 100miles away who was selling their bike on a FB group)

Cheers Kimbers. I have just added a post

I have been browsing facebook/ Gumtree/ ebay etc but as you say if the bike is moved a reasonable distance it gets even harder to track down.

I am genuinely astonished at the frequency on new bike for sale posts on Gumtree too! Almost impossible to keep track of new listings with a large search radius!

Very sorry to hear about it. Our garage was broken into in Bath (bear flat / Bloomfield area) about 6 weeks ago. 4 bikes stolen, including a Santa Cruz Hightower and SC Chameleon...

Police recovered one bike (sadly not either of the SCs!) from Bristol and someone’s been charged with handling stolen goods. They don’t think that person was involved in the theft though.

I’ve since turned the garage into Fort Knox and fitted ground anchors and 16mm motorbike chains... seems the only good option for a little bit of piece of mind. Check out Pragmasis security!

Ah that sucks @budadav

Did you have any inkling of how a scrote would know to have a go at your garage?
