there was a nice looking IF bike on here the other day but I don't think you'll find a 'light' steel road frame now particularly with CEN coming in a while back.

Kona Kapu, Kona Haole, Perogetti, Holdsworth Special Edition to name a few.

Some of these may not be light though

EDIT oops didn't see the frame part (you can buy the frame/fork also of these £240 online 🙂

Hard to beat home grown if you have the budget. There's plenty good builders, including Mercian

+1 For Condor they have several models.
Bob Jackson off the pegs.
Mercians
Enigmas....never really got their pricing. Seems dear for off the peg.
Masters, silly money now.
Steel is lovely for a just riding bikes.

Is it famous?

Yes it's my pride and joy, different wheels, bars, tape, tyres, seat pin but yes looking good, i was interested in your wheels thread as i'm contemplating some handbuilt Hewwit Open pros on Record hubs as i had some for my new crosser and love them 😉

Well worth the custom fit IMO as my legs are 2" too long for my height 😐

rourke and enigma for stiff, light and racy frames at sensible prices
pegoretti if you want to treat yourself (i did)

forget all that retro lugged stovepipe stuff with quill stems.
modern oversize tigged frames in columbus spirit, 853, tru-temper etc are much better to ride.

lighter, springier, more responsive, livlier handling.....

just my opinion having ridden both though, YMMV

I had a condor fratello until recently, I think it was deda sat 14.5 or something? Anyway it looked really nice but the ride was pretty rubbish when compared to a good carbon frame

Wow what a great thread. I never thought I would be so interested in road bikes again, but I've fallen into the 'I have a family now and don't have time to get out on the mountain bike as much as I would like. What i need is a road bike so I can go for a quick spin from my front door' category. I gather that this is becoming increasingly common.

I just put this together for about £1450 (the complete bike above is £1300 but has a lower spec groupset on it)

It will do for a first bike back into road riding! But there are some lovely options here.

geetee thats how i started and roading has totally taken over my riding.

You can jump on for a quick few hours from your door - get some great fitness and be home by 11 with 50-60 miles in your legs.

I've dropped 4 stone in a year thanks to my roadbike.

There was a steel Baum for sale on bike radar a couple of weeks ago, also a pegoretti at £1750 still there.

Carbon that's a pretty inspirational story. I need to lose weight as well (I did drop a stone two years ago but I had a big crash this year and most of it has crept back on).

Target is to get back below 100kgs and the road bike is part of that strategy.
