[#1683701]

Hello
I have a Rock Lobster 853 which I really like but its starting to look really tatty.
I have considered just using it as a hack bike and buying something else eg Blue Pig or Rocky Mountain 853 but it may be worth getting it re-sprayed.
The question is how much is it likely to cost, what is my best option and can anybody recommend me somewhere in the North East to get it done?
Cheers
Steve

Not the north east Steve, but Tripple S in Bingley are spot on for powdercoating..

Are M STEEL cycles still open in Newcastle? (they used to do lots of frame building and respray work)

otherwise ARGOS Racing Cycles in Bristol are highly recommended, and undertake frame warranty work and resprays for Specialized UK, etc.

Dave Yates is East, but not particularly North (Lincolnshire) Closer than Bristol, though!

I got my 456 done at Bettablast in february. It was a "basic" powdercoa and no welding or special paint techniques (other than I got a candy/pearlescent finish).

Cost me £50 but I had a premium finish that required two coats. I think there more basic rates were <£40.

They did a superb job. Everything masked so only a small amount of paint needed removing from the headset/bb which I did with sand paper to take back to bare steel. They stripped, blasted and painted in about 3 days.

Guy was honest, helpful, professional and understood the typical concerns of a cyclist getting a frame powder coated (456 has quite a lot of threads as it has rack mounts and wierd v rake mount bits).

Anyway, If I ever get another frame done it will be there. A handful of midaircrisis have got there frames done there too. All happy from what I here.

Request Interpon, I'm biased but it's the best option for powder coats 😉

Thanks for your help everyone.

Whos_daddy-was that £65 for the whole job ie stripped, blasted, masked and coated etc? They are just down the road from me so would be agood option.
Also any idea as to how hard wearing the coatin is-the original was poor!!!

Cheers
Steve

Another vote here for Bettablast. Lovely job, which seems to be lasting very well.

Fatgit, mine goes to Fleet Enterprises on Chilton Industrial Estate, near Ferryhill. It's a two man band run by Peter Summers & his lad. Always done a good job for me.

Kevin Winter In Ferryhill...

He's i think the only builder left in the North East and has a good little spray set up too if you wanted something more complex than a poweder coater can offer.

If you want a custom spray job then Kevin Winter in Ferryhill is your man. If you want a powdercoat then Bettablast in Shiremore, Newcastle is the place. Around £30-40 at bettablast. Not sure on Kevin's prices but it'll be more than a powdercoat.

These were both done at bettablast

Woody - its a gusset saddle. Bought it from ed cycles.

However it died a month after i got it, the rail snapped.
Shame. - back to the boring brown spoon again.
