Im currently building up a 24in steel DJ frame (2011 BlkMrkt Contraband)
The paint is pretty bad, very patchy and discoloured so im going to get it powdercoated locally pretty cheap
The top tube has a line dent in it, its nothing major and ive ridden dented bmx's that were worse but before i get it powder coated ill get it filled
Now whats the best way to get it filled, being steel i was thinking of getting someone i know to fill the dent with braze or will some kind of metal filler just be as good and wont be affected by the baking process once powdercoated?
Get some JB Weld from eBay / Amazon - I've used it for this exact same purpose. It's metal filled epoxy, it will stand the powdercoat oven temps and also allows the powder to stick to it. It can be sanded to suit the profile of the tube.
I was going to say JB Weld but couldn't remember the name. Perfect tool for the job.
Get some pictures up before and after so we can see the progress!
Silver solder DIY with a small plumbing blowtorch. File and sand smooth. You want something approx 55% silver - can usually get a few sticks with a little bag of flux off eBay.
Cheers for the repiles, here's a pic of the dent, pretty minor, actually smaller than i remember!
Also a pic of the bike, still need to upgrade the brake, seatpost & seat!
Looks fun. Are you taking it to the Southampton Bike park STW Mincefest?
Prob not, wont be finished until Feb time i suspect
First place ill take it will be Southsea Skatepark, will be intresting to see how it handles on the 5ft spine mini compared to my bmx!
