Just about to start building a pair of Crest 29er rims (with spokes supplied by customer) and decided to check spoke lengths before I started.
Banged hub and rim dimensions into DT Spoke Calculator and it gave me a figure waaaay out from what I'd been given
Hmmmm
Double checked ERD on rim:

Rim has ERD printed on the same sticker as the '29er' bit, but it's for a 26in rim! Actual ERD off the Stans site and measured by myself is 605mm

Sticker is misprinted. Fact.

You have been warned......! ๐Ÿ™‚

Never rely on manufacturers ERD. Always measure.

That's odd. The ones you built up for me say 605 on the rim sticker. I've just been and checked.

Pete, thanks for confirming that. I did wonder! I think this is my 4th or 5th set of Stans 29er rims I've built and I don't remember having a problem with any of the others, no.

Nope. Brand new rims, they even say 29er on them, on the same sticker as the wrong ERD!

Have you contacted them? Always a chance they don't know.

Stans ERD's seem off anyway so best to measure.

On a related note I've some labeled 26" Specialized Purgatory tyres that are fitted on 29" rims very nicely!

Never built a wheel by trusting what someone else tells me. Well, I have.. but been wary until the relief point! Always keen on the dt spoke calc. The one you lay down and put a rim on. Not the internetty one.

I know what you mean, I've used one. I use 2 old pokes with nipples glued on, cut to 200mm each, and a tape measure. It's normally accurate to about 1mm, which is easily enough.

but did you use the right spokes - or just change the nipples and charge him for the right spokes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Heheheeee! ๐Ÿ™‚

Customer supplied his own spokes, measurements supplied by Hope to him, so we had the correct spokes. Lovely pair of wheels they are, actually. I like building Stans rims, they build really nicely.

I've just sent them a nice email about it. We'll see what they say ๐Ÿ™‚

Well I got a reply:

[i]Peter,

Sorry for the error. We are aware of it and tried to catch all the rims.

Which is fair enough. ๐Ÿ™‚
