This has had me in tears of laughter.
Im not sure whether it shows people still have passion for SS's or that some people either need to get out more (or not come racing at all).

I for one would like to say that Im in the 30 people who will be racing hard but that I will still come about 35th.

As for what bike for the quarry? if someone can get 2nd in the mega avalanche on a hardtail SS then Im sure we'll all be ok on our bikes.

For me once I hit the beer stop at SSEC it all went downhill from there.
Back on track I was looking forward to Gisburn, but it has changed for a reason.
I have not done Lee Quarry, and would not have considered taking a rigid singlespeed there, as I have always imagined it to be rocky and in need of some bounce.
I am in and as previously said there is 2 months to go.
If I go will there be a somewhere to take my clothes off when I'm p1ssed? 😯

I don't care where it is. I'm still coming and will be too drunk to notice where it is or how far I have ridden.

I think you can get suspension forks to fit singlespeeds now.

SSUK moved to Lee Quarry? Ace. I might go now. Especially if loads of the moaning cocks in the rest of the thread aren't now going.

I'm with this. I've seen a lot of moaning for nothing on here and FB, but it should suit me. My bike even might be quite suitable for it.. 26" wheels, suspension forks... It even looks like a normal bike, not an attention-seeking nichemobile. 😉

I'm really looking forward to this now since the venue change. A technical SSUK with some proper climbs and real descents sounds fun. Besides, is it really about where it is? If the riding isn't what suits the most vocal people here, then it doesn't mean it won't be fun. Different people will do well in it, and it's still singlespeeding.

We have a SS sub category and it is possible to get a good SS course in the quarry. Charlie the Bikemonger sponsors it and a few forum regulars ride SS.

Next race on the 2nd Sept for a chance to race it properly before SSUK12

A rigid bike can do well twinklydave podiumed on a TD1 (geared) in our top category and he rode to the quarry from home.

Schwalbe tires and people running low pressure tubeless suffer badly in the quarry.

This sounds like it might be the perfect time to take my full suspension singlespeed bike to an event.

Could it be moved again so that the venue is within an hours drive of Brighton?

.. I am going, and expect nothing more than rain and beer, and some bikes. What more do we need?

I can entertain myself in a field by myself, everything else is a bonus. Quarries are just like farms, fields and forests... Just they are farms that grow rocks.

Having said that I don't know where I am going, or when. Happy to sponsor with prizes, but no contact yet. Whatever happens it will be better than 99% of races cos its single speed (which infers that it wont be so damned serious) and for me that's enough.

If I organised it, you would be given a map and a route from one pub on a beach, to another pub on a hill. No Marsalls, no medics, no marker tape, no insurance, bring your own food, no showers, and the campsite would be near the pub which happened to have a band on. Might also have a fat bike race around the nudist beach. Look at that, I just organised it. How hard was that?

Uselesshippy... I already have, look its right there above your post.

It would have to officially be a reliability trial, rather than a race, but really who actually races? Those race guys can crack on ahead and be reliable. The route in mind is being partly used for a wiggle off road sportive, so whats the real difference? They give out medals for finishing in certain time zones. We can do that. Anyone who beats the hour (or whatever) wins a medal. We might get a dozen medalists. Who cares. **** it. Let's do it the same day as the wiggle thing so the trail is already marked up with signs etc. Wiggle want something like £30 to ride public rights of way, I will do it for nowt and a beer.

If people are cool with the non race sportive format, I am up for it.

Clink, you already want a date... Calm down.

Roughly the route could be, but better, with less gravel and Tarmac, should the route take in a cake shop? ..

But we would start and finish at studland, cos its better for beach parties and beer. And the village name is funny.

Hijacking the wiggle ride, awesome, what can possibly go wrong.

should the route take in a cake shop?
hell yes!

Why is the isle of purbeck called the "isle of"? can't they be shot for trades descriptions act or something.

LQ is local so no exciting new trails to ride, bit of a downer but hey ho, looking forward to it.

Isalnd... Yeah... The stoborough road flooded a few weeks ago... We were once again an island, but not long enough to organise an independence movement or place angry trolls under the bridges.
