There is still 2 months to go!

I remember when the complaints were that there was too much info too soon and it was getting too organised.

Organising a race is difficult and hard work shocker and someone somewhere will throw you a big massive flaming curveball usually during the week before. Changing the venue has hopefully avoided the main one that tends to come from the FC.

Never been to Lee Quarry and the last time I camped at Gisburn for a NAMBS race I recall a major Midgie problem, I get enough of those at home.

yep still plenty of time for the accommodation seeking people to book themselves into the Bacup Ramada.

To add my 2p,s worth the riding @ Lee Quarry is Ace and The STW weekender was good evidence, it will be hard as **** on a 32:16 for all you Midland pussies ๐Ÿ˜‰
The weekender programme of events with a few drinking/bike throwing extras thrown in will be great, bring it on!

Oh and if I enter will the organisers sort out the track up to the venue, will you have to park your motors @ the bottom?

Oh and forget the burger van something a bit more classy please ๐Ÿ˜€

Oooh oooh there's always a Bacup plan.

Yes got in there first.

Pop why not start a banter thread instead of moaning about the venue having to be changed?

Anyone who's organised a race before will have had those "I really wish we could just do it somewhere else where we didn't have to deal with all this crap" thoughts. Usually there isn't somewhere else and people just have to make themself miserable and compromise their event etc etc.

Thankfully SSUK do have another venue and it really is quite a good one you know? Admittedly it's not camping in a bucolic paradise, but it's still a nice spot, and one spot that everything will be in - racing, socialising, riding, camping.

AND there's a pump track ๐Ÿ™‚

is my OP moaning?
Expressing disappointment and saying I was unsure isnt really moaning is it?
Perhaps posting up a bit of info about whats happening will create some buzz around the event- at the moment there aint much to banter about ๐Ÿ˜‰

its one that shows disappointment- Im sure the organisers share that feeling otherwise they wouldnt have gone for Gisburn in the first place

have the folks 'not moaning really, more pointing out the shortcomings of this shit to other people to facilitate their moaning' been to gisburn? my heart sort of sank a bit when i heard it was there... the loop would have been fine (but the main difference seems to be the presence of the trees really), but i cannot really see where everyone would have camped. my feeling was that it would be another 'spread to the four winds' type gathering with tents dotted in small clusters for miles. witness the 'constructive comments in a non-moan style' post SSWC in ireland last year where the attendees where essentially spread over the whole of southern ireland.

at least at lee quarry it is a self contained, compact site where we can circle the wagons and prepare for the onslaught from the shuffling armies of the undead as they make their way up from Bacup once the sun goes down.

Assuming that's aimed primarily at me no I havent been to Gisburn but I was assuming that we would be looking at 'cheeky trails' for the riding and not a manicured trail centre type approach hence the name of the organising group.
I also sort of thought that the camping/event area would have been considered as lets face it for many this is as important (if not more) than the riding to many who will be attending

well, the comment wasn't really 'aimed' at anyone, i rarely aim comments, merely throw them out there weakly.

as far as i understand it, the camping was considered, in that, yes there is room to camp there. i would imagine that part of the thinking when FC were engaged and Lee Quarry was mooted as an alternative would have been, is the camping better there in keeping everyone together? so (to specifically answer your point) on the face of it to me, it sounds like the camping has been made the priority you claim people want it to be

edit, soz, forgot smiley, cos i have often been told to stop looking so miserable as singlespeed events ๐Ÿ™‚

I remember a tale about the camping but it was discussed over a beer or 5 so in case I get wrong I'll not try to give the answer. It was planned though but sadly some things are beyond control.

to give some balance, and without going into great detail (as said up there, anyone who has organised a race/gathering knows how difficult it can be herding all the cats together) on all points

the camping/group vibe was a large consideration, some thought was put into it, as much as Gisburn was the 1st choice for the course the camping was going to be an issue, as was parking, the good thing along with the course was that there is an ace pub right there next to the venue

but

as I said earlier, Lee Quarry were gagging to hold the event, and given that "all together" camping is available (although yes getting there can be interesting) the decision was made in good faith

It will be good fun, the course will be hard for those 20 or 30 who want to race, the winners probably wont get as a good a prize as the shonkiest bike or the fattest singlespeeder, there will be a bonfire, and possibly fireworks etc etc

but it'll only be as good as those there want to make it on the weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

If you don't have a venue confirmed why advertise it?

Would have made this whole thread redundant

is everything in your life confirmed ?, what exactly are people wanting here ?, some kind of public apology ?, someone to fall on the sword ?

its a single speed bike race in two months time, a race that maybe 30 people will take serious, the rest will turn up, ride bikes and drink beer, its not really that important is it ?

TBH I'm glad it's at Lee Quarry - mostly because I have a vague idea of where it is. It's good riding, everyone can camp together in the same spot, no-one within miles to moan about noise (or people breaking in to manor houses at 3am) etc. I really couldn't imagine a much better location for an SSUK.

If you were expecting a race on cheeky trails then I suspect that was never going to happen...

Yes angry Steve. Everything in my life is confirmed when I'm openly inviting people from all over the country to come & join me, otherwise people tend to get a bit miffed

Top venue, great riding and the lumpy campsite means large quantities of alcohol are required for a decent night's sleep.

Ideal.

well, if you really are angry about a change of venue for a race in two months time can I suggest that you come along and express your anger at the organisers on the day

and as for expecting a race on cheeky trails, as far as I remember when the Telly Savalas Fan club organised SSUK and SSWC Telly was nowhere to be seen, dont think anyone was dissapointed

Mr "Everything in my life is confirmed" Podge can express his anger in my direction. I'm not an organiser, but I know someone who is, so you can think of me as a conduit for your ire. Plus I do like an argument me.

SSUK moved to Lee Quarry? Ace. I might go now. Especially if loads of the moaning cocks in the rest of the thread aren't now going.
