anyone ever bodged a ss tensioner from a old rear mech?
please tell me how.
Yes - just screw the adjuster screws in a lot.
Get a bit of old gear cable, pull it through so the stop (that's usualy in the shifter) sits in the mech ferrule, then clamp the cable as normal to put it inthe right place over the sprocket. The barrel adjuster (on shimano) will give it some fine tuning.
The limit stops sometimes work, but IME are either too short or the angle of the linkage moves the stops in an arc away from the path of the screws.
cheers

I did this but took it a step further with an old TY20 mech. cut off the cage up to the upper jockey wheel and routed the chain underneath the top jockey to tension.
I even ran it on a very small 13-19 botched cassette with a thumbshifter to shift it and it seemed to work OK. great if you have a bit of varied terrain and don't want to spin your legs out on the flat.
Limit screws worked for me.
