that was actually as serious question, is there an optimum ratio or is it very much down to personal preference?

think there is an optimum ratio but this depends if you ride bmx, mtb, road and probably the terrain you encounter. Think you divide the front sprocket by the rear and you should get roughly 2.7.

all the above had/have 34:18 but that's only coz it was the only combo i had at the start and i didn't change it, infact the rear shimano bmx sprocket is still going 7 years later 🙂

Three.

A converted Kona Hahanna which is hanging up in the garage awaiting rebuilding as a commuter.

A converted geared Inbred, which is in use every day as a commuter at the moment.

A Solitude drop bar 29er which is waiting for thinner tyres.

Six:

Kona Kilauea
On-one Slidy inbred
Cannondale F900
GT Peace
On-one 853 inbred

and a Spesh Langster (though it was a fixie)

All good and just a progression of frames really rather than multiple SSs at the same time

Latest one:

That last pics looks like you've been doing more than your normal amount of maintainance on it.

My first and loving it so far.......

As for the ratio.

I think it`s down to personal choice IMHO... I run 32-18 here in the north Lakes. I can climb but i recon anything more would blow yer knees appart!!

Four: a chrome Bates Fixie when I was a teenager, a Handjob to see if I got on with a ss mountain bike, which had all the bits swapped onto an On-One 853 frame five years later, and now a Kona Sutra with bullhorn aero bars and mudguards as my winter hack bike. It'll soon have cx tyres as well, and possibly an 8-speed hub and carbon forks later this year. Fun bike, the Kona. Sorry, can't post up pics from this devise.

4 1/2 -

Old steel Merlin frame with horizontal dropouts (trustyrusty)
Surly 1x1 (sold, but still going strong)
Indy Fab 853 Deluxe SS (lovely but broken)
Retro singleated Explosif commuter with mud guards
Dialled Love/hate (my favourite bike, "won" at SSUK06 for having the Shonkiest bike, the Merlin)

Singleated a Trek Roadie that was my commuter for a year or two (sold)
Also used to have an old Commasini roadie that I rode SS (and fixed for a while, but fell off far too much!) that I eventually gave to another forum user in London. So 7 and I've still got 4 :0)

Just the one RD, although after spending £200+ on the modifications I don't reckon that counts 😉 (I've had two different tiny Inbreds and countless Kona DJ hardtails hence the similar pics)

I don't think anyone's going to beat Mama's tiny bike collection!

You'd think, looking at that lot, and some of the location shots under motorways etc, that it was a fleet belonging to a group of teenage lads.

But no.

Mama, it's not healthy, you know. You really ought to get some help, love.

Love this shot:

Ah, the Dirt Bros Patriot - wish I'd never sold that one (prob goes for all the others too). That spot is pretty near to me, the graffiti changes almost weekly - only pass through on my way home from work now as I got fed up of rebuilding the dirt on top of the concrete banks - maybe it's time to introduce JD to trailbuilding.

Get some help - you gotta be kidding - I'm having too much fun.
