I've got some of this cable to install on a new road bike build. It's all SRAM Apex kit & the cable is this SRAM Slickwire stuff.
Before I go chopping it & ruining it, can anyone clear up what the bare metal ends of the outer are for? You can see them in this image (thanks Rosebikes website):
Should this be cut-off prior to install? I have only ever bought brake cable from my LBS cut to the approx. length I need and have never seen these ends before....I am assuming it is a result of the manufacturing process and I can just cut it off back to the black sleeve?
Also, there are 3 different types of ferrule that can be seen in the image. There is a warning in the pack that I can't remember exactly, but it say something about using the 'POP' ferrule at the brake guide end for optimum braking power.....but I tried fitting the ferrules in to the housing on the caliper & the small black one & silver one fitted fine but the POP one (the tallest one) doesn't fit very well at all....
Ah, thinking about it - perhaps this ferrule goes at the shifter end - I didn't check this....
The rear brake is internal routed, so I was intending on using full outer runs for both front & rear.
Any help appreciated before I bugger it up!
Anyone got any ideas...?
It's for running round the inside of your bars: the outer is very stiff so they supply a small section that's easier to bend.

Ah, Cheers. I guess that makes sense!
