hows it going? is the shifting as crisp and precise through the cassette as the videos ive seen
currently on shimano 11 speed with xtr shifter and xt mech, xt 11-42 cassette, I don't struggle with climbs really, but ive never been totally satisfied with the shifting of shimano, like the klunkiness of shifts on SRAM
any updates on folks who've used it a while etc? cassette life seems to be ok?
It's ace! The black finish on the cassette isn't the most durable but it still shifts beautifully and feels very, very good. Actually rode an 11-speed XT group for the first time in 6 months since the switch to Eagle and imo it felt like dogturds, really heavy feeling and clunky compared to the Eagle and thats the XT out of the box fresh too! It is crazy expensive aftermarket (mine came on my Whyte) but it is by far and away the best drivetrain I've ever used, this coming from a lifelong Shimano Fanboi and general SRAM hater in the past.
cheers lawman, when you say the black cassette do you mean just the top black cog? (as far as I can see its only black on the 50t)
sounds promising on the shifting front, I'm after instant crisp shifting, not sure I've ever been happy with the shimano shifting in that sense, but I didn't want to go back to sram 11 speed
it seems like its come on to next level with the new eagle stuff
X01 Cassette is Black
XX1 Cassette is Gold with black 50T cog
I've been Eagle since mid August, did 3 weeks in Whistler with it and it worked fine on everything. Shifting is better than my X9 10 speed, once you have it dialled in, but I still prefer XTR 9sp. The black is starting to wear off the 50T cog.
oh yep, sorry got it the wrong way around, its the cassette that's black and the 50t that's silver on x01 😳
good to hear it all works well, ive had a quick play on it in a shop and it felt incredible, much much nicer than my shimano has ever done, but with it being designed in a dry dusty area I wondered how it faired once all the crap hit it, sounds like it still works the same
currently on shimano 11 speed with xtr shifter and xt mech, xt 11-42 cassette
I have the same setup but with xtr mech and find it flawless. To save on the utterly ludicrous price of SRAM Eagle and to avoid using anything SRAM ever make I simply bought the Oneup 50 tooth shark extender. It also works flawlessly and is very durable whilst offering a proper granny gear for here in the Lakes. If I was you I would be seriously tempted to save £100s and get the Oneup setup for £89.99 from CRC as you will find the Eagle does not provide the clunk you seek when shifting.
in what sense don't you get the klunk? I thought that's what all sram gears did?
ive not used one of those extender things before tbh, ill have a look into it also
I always find with the clutch on shimano the shifting goes really stiff (even with a new mech), even with the clutch tweaked to be less it still feels pretty tough, turn the clutch off and it feels lovely to shift
with sram its always just like that, it shifts the same as the clutch is permanently on
I would say the M8000 feels "clunkier" than the X01 eagle. In a blind test for shifting feel (leaving shifter ergonomics out of the equation) I'd say most people would think the Eagle was from Shimano as it feels very light at the shifter and smooth both ways on the cassette, up and down and the XT is very much SRAM feeling ime, very definite and clunky!
XX1 11 speed is clunky as hell, no experience of eagle but it's rumoured to be way smoother
It's the durability(lack of) with sram that keeps me shimano 8)
