[#3069658]

Been trying to sort out my gears today, thought oh my chain is a bit long so i adjusted it, turns out the chain was fine so i need to put in a link, where do the pins come from as googling isn't throwing up many options or can i re use pins?

can i re use pins?

I've re-used Shimano pins before...and got away with it. Bit risky though.

Why not just replace with a powerlink?

But also...there is nothing wrong with:

i had 3 power links in my chain at one point.

I cocked up chain length ones and had 20 links in there with no problems, get on CRC and get another and a spare while you are there.

power links are stronger than actual links!

Sorry what?

Break the chain using the powerlink.

Shorten the chain by however many links.

Fit new powerlink. (I know you shouldn't, but i've always re-used powerlinks with no problems at all)

You can re-use links, but tbh, i'd rather not. Powerlink it up.

Its the pins that connect the links i wondered about are they re-usable. Might try a spare powerlink i have at home later.

Ok, so you what to put more links in?
Split the chain, opposite the power link you have, work out how many links you need, then re-join with another 2 power link (RRP £2.99)
Or split it at the power link you got work out how many links you need and re join with the one you got and 1 new one.
I had 2 power links close together when trying out triple and drouble set ups. and worked fine.

9spd, SRAM power links can be re used
10spd SRAM power links can NOT be re used, you can have to 3/4 power links if you like.

9 and 10 spd KMC missing links can be reused.
