Any tips, managed to remove non drive side put then broke my extractor trying to remove drive side.
better quality extractor?
plus a bit of heat - the crank arm will expand quicker than the axle.
various combinations of:
Heat
hammer
hacksaw
Or loosen bolt and ride until it falls off.
(at your risk...)
Heat it up with a hot air gun ,bit of wood and bash.
You could try a small pulley wheel extractor if all else fails.
3 leg puller and profane language?
Has the thread gone in the crank arm?
If so some of the above.
But to add if the bb is shot remove the non drive side cup then hammer and punch from the drive side the axel out of the crank arm.
THIS IS A LAST DITCH METHOD.
Just thought on the bottom of the range bb this won't work as the cup in the drive side is fixed so check this out first.
Tool only.
With the old cup and cone types you could loosen a cup, put a spacer in between frame and loosened cup ( a couple of cone spanners was ideal) and give the axle a whack.
Just get the tool, you'll need it next time anyway.
If you have a cheaper Bottom bracket rather than a shimano cartridge jobby that has to come out one way you could get a pipe wrench on the bottom bracket and take the whole piece out in one go? I managed to do this once but it was the drive side stuck.
Thanks for all the advice. Will weld up extraction tool and have soaked in WD40. Ball joint splitting tool looks like a good idea.
If all else fails will cut through axle and then I can remove taper section in the vice.
