We're planning a long weekend somewhere warm early-ish next year, maybe end Feb/March. Know some of the pro-teams train in Majorca for the hills and warm weather. That the right place for us to go? Anyone recommend bike friendly hotels or anyone who does organised bike stays? Assume there are some Brits out there doing that kind of thing.

Thanks

I used to go every spring until about 6 years ago as its' a great pre-season training or just spring riding. I would probably go more March/April as the weather is changeable then but you are more likely to get some sun. We always went to Puerto Pollensa and you can find some info here:
http://www.puertopollensa.com/hotels.html

there is a huge hotel on the front, although it is in the middle between the 2 towns but if you book there the food is phenomenal, they cater for all the athletes. When we used to stay there, there were lots of German triathletes pounding up and down the pool, so the food is good and geared towards sports people/training.

There are some cracking road rides, Big and Little Sola, Sa Colobra, get over Port d'Anthrax (excuse some of the spellings). If you want any more let me know I can always ring my mates in Cardiff who still go there every year and get you some more info.

I loved it, just a shame Mr MC isn't into road riding but I'm working on it!

Feb/March weather might not be that great in Majorca, snow and rain are not uncommon that time of year, I'd leave it a month or two if Majorca is your destination. At that time of year I'd head for Lanzarote instead.

I've probably been to Majorca 12-15 times varying times of year, I love the riding in the Mountains there, we went in May this year and had a great week. I did Lanzarote in Decemeber when the snow and ice arrived in the UK and was treated to bike riding in 26degs everyday.

Prices are pretty similar to both destinations btw, we paid approx £300 for flight, transfer, accom both times for a 10 day trip.

I went in March for 3 weeks 8)

I stayed in Port du Pollensa.

When I go next yeat I'll be staying in Hotel Duva ( http://duva-pollensa.com/?i=ing)

You can get a good mix of hilly / flat stuff from there. A lot of brit cyclists stay in the Pollensa Park hotel but having had a quick shufty around, I wasn't overly impressed.

For advice / repairs Pro Cycle Hire is the best shop in the place.

Have fun, it's great!

Yes Canary Islands the alternative for better weather I think. Whats the flight time down there? Maybe a bit far for a long weekend.

Remember though that Lanzarote is known for it's winds! I went there years ago not cycling and the wind can get you down as it can be quite strong. it's just over 4 hours to Lanzarote.
