struggling with bike comfort again. tried a ism saddle, it has made a massive difference. but i need a wider saddle.

130mm across is too narrow.

i have never tried a wide saddle. widest i have used is a brooks b17 standard.which is 175mm iirc.

was thinking of tryng a cambium c19 which is proper wide.

so what i think i am asking is, should you use a wider saddle the heavier/larger you are?

yes - the bigger you are the wider your pelvis thus the wider saddle you need.  You also need a wider saddle the more upright you sit

Ill say, In the nicest possible way, I’m a fair bit narrower than you ton, and I won’t entertain anything less than 143mm. Go get measured.

Good padded shorts can make a big difference too

Might sound a bit daft but consider a women's saddle, they are generally wider than men's. But as above, get measured, without knowing that you'll just be guessing.

I was surprised to read recently that hip width and sitting bone width aren’t all that proportional - I get measured with one of those things.

Measure sit bone width in your riding position. Some manufacturers do multiple widths of the same saddle model.
