Those of a certain age will still have wistful memories of Spooky cycles, the original Metalhead to me remains hands down the coolest MTB frame ever made.

So, I'm stoked they're back but.... PF30 BB,on an alloy frame? really?

I remember a 650b frame of theirs (Horror Taxi, maybe?) being tested in the mag before it was A Thing. How long ago was that?

Yep, that's ugly.
Their road and cx bikes are nice though. I've been following them for ages waiting for a cx disc, but nothing so far.

Yeah, just looks a bit 'meh' looking at the travel and geometry it's basically the same as my Kili Flyer. If it was boost and 29" with that travel then we could be in business.

But then there's that BB, grrrr why!

I used to love their bikes. This is just a Ventana with a different paint job.

It's a shame to see that iconic brand name on the downtube of that thing. Would have been dated geometry-wise if it had been released 4 yrs ago.

Oof.

That's more than spooky, it's a downright horrorshow.

Wight Mountain were the UK importer and Russ (owner/manager) still rides his Horror Taxi. I know he's looking to expand his 90's Spooky collection so if anybody has any surplus to requirements I know he may be interested. ๐Ÿ˜‰

A press fit BB in an alu frame is no different to the Metalhead. I miss the one I had a few years back as a hack bike, should have kept it and built it up nicely.

The new bike looks pretty uninspiring.

Are you comparing plastic cupped PF30 to the gigantic alloy BMX beasts that had to be fitted and removed with large hammers and blocks of wood?

Press fit WISHES it was as hard as a Profile or Primo BB.

I remember lusting after the 90's spooky frames - had a look at their website hoping for some interesting stuff & got as far as this...

Spooky Cycles found its start in New England in 1992 when a group of straight edge punk friends dissented the current available riding gear that wasn't designed for their type of riding. As they sat around a table a plan was hatched on a napkin and Spooky was born.

๐Ÿ˜

In 1992 Spooky Cycles set out to build the bike we wanted to ride because no one else made it. In 2016 we returned for that same reason. We returned prepared, and we haven't come alone. After nearly 25 years we've found ourselves and we're recruiting.

So it's taken 25 years to come up with some bikes that might have been novel 10 years ago?

Is it the same people or is someone flogging the name?

Edit: 2009

Once we invent the time machine we can add them to the list of people to erase then.

This is, at least, the third iteration.

I always really liked the original ones.

Hmmmmm.

Not sure. Spooky were cool as hell back in the day. A few of my mates have Metalheads in baby blue and I was so jealous! I'd snap one up now if I found one.

It does a bit like they are trading on an old name more than anything. I want to see a hardcore hardtail not CX and road frames for hipsters!

To be fair they did stuff like CX, XC and trials bikes back in the day. It's just they were overshadowed by the dirt jump/DH side. The Metalhead was quite a step forward at the time.

Frank The Welder is still working away and he still seems to do Spooky and Yeti replicas and repairs.
