'Borrowed' my wife's front tyre this morning. After the ride I noticed that it had lots of small splits on the sidewall

Is it safe to ride and what causes it?

How old is it? Is the rubber perished? I've had it on old tyres that have been left deflated in the garage for a long time.

If it was my wife's front tyre I'd just replace it if I was in any doubt. Buy a new one for her off CRC, get yourself some stuff and say you needed to add some extra bits to make it up to the level for free shipping. Job's a good'un.

if it's got splits in it I'd say it's probably not safe. as above, get a new one.

What make? some tyres seem prone to this if not used regularly.
