Would it be crazy to keep using this for light trail riding? The split is 20mm long. 32 spoke wheel.
Well, it's weaker now and will fail in more exciting way at some point. If you didn't have another wheel and had to get to the shops/work/whatever, then yeah given that it survived the rest of the ride when the damage happened. Would I ride it properly on trails knowing that it was there? No.ย
Ha ha, ok. A vote for 'very crazy'.
I would ride it slowly to the shop to buy another rim, but I don't think I'd take it offroad again. As Yak said it will fail worse next time, maybe not enough to cause a crash but probably enough to chew up the tyre on there and make you walk home.ย
I've seen that sort of split extend massively when the tyre was pumped up, so approach with care...............
The split has possibly been hiding behind that sticker for a year+. I noticed a little bump last time I was trueing the wheel, but didn't investigate further. I thought it was just a ding (which was visible with the sticker intact). This time while trueing, I decided to peel off the sticker and here we are. Next time I spot a ding I will be investigating properly.ย
Front or rear?ย
If front, bin. If rear, I'd absolutely give it death, then put it on my wall as a badge of honour.ย
