Hi all this is my first post so go easy ๐ recently bought a superb spesh camber expert which is brilliant. Covered about 200 miles on it so far and very happy with it. Just got the bike back from the LBS as I had a problem with the rebas losing negative air pressure (sorted under warranty and note said SRAM found a faulty seal) and also the triad 2 fitted to the rear. The problem with this is that it's kind of "squelchy" for first 10 mm or so of travel. Seems to work fine and was sent back to fox with this problem. Fox rebuilt the shock and say no fault found. Thing is, of all the air can shocks I have had (floats and RL) I have never heard them make any noise. I have checked it's not the pivots and definitely coming from shock.
Is the squishing noise normal - kind of sounds like a creaking? I run at 180 psi (have tried at 100 and 200 psi and noise still there) and not tried changing damping yet but doubt this will make a difference.
Thanks all
I had a Triad on my last Stumpjumper FSR. I don't think that it was completely silent.
How much rebound damping do you run? It will probably be noisier set to slow rebound.
Thanks for the reply ๐ usually run for clicks from full slow. It happens just on downward stroke literally for the first few mm of travel. Sounds like a quiet rusty hinge ?? Performance seems fine though and fox found no problem with it. I am thinking I should just get used to it and try forget about it ๐
Four clicks !
Like a squelch..........?
When you ride it, do you end up with a smear of oil on the shaft? It could just have a bit too much lubricating oil in the can of the shock, which will settle down in time.
Yeah you could very well be right with that mate. There is quite a bit of oil on the shaft...it does sound like oil is being forced and bubbling under pressure through the lip seal (hence the squish) Would have thought it would clear after 200 miles of riding though.....maybe just need to rack up more ๐ and see how it goes.
Very impressed with fox and SRAM service though - both shocks sent for repair and back to LBS within 3 days - so must have been same day turn around if you factor in a day each side for posting.
Just waiting for my bloody reverb to come back now as the main air seal failed. Not having too much luck with my air cans at the moment!!!!
The air can has a transfer port between the posiitve and negative air chambers which allows air and the float fluid to pass between the two chambers which may cause a bit of squelchy noise.
Saying that a squelch and lack of damping can also indicate cavitation which would need a full rebuild to rectify.
If it's been back to Mojo recently and they said there's no issue then it'll be the former I would think.
