Seems a bit of a con, its a nice enough bike but its not really a SRAM Red groupset is it. Wonder if people buy this and dont realise.
If you spec it up to be what it really should be as advertised then its nearer £1800!!!
Naughty naughty
A full SRAM Red groupset is well over £1k on its own though, even heavily discounted from Merlin Cycles.
Yes, Planet X are well known for exaggeration, but to be fair, even just the Red mechs and shifters that it comes with (the rest seems to be Apex) still looks like a good deal. Though why you'd want an alloy frame with Red as opposed to carbon Frame with Rival on for the same price, is beyond me...
It's definitely a little bit of old school "rear-mech-itis".
I was about to order one of these - is it worth the deal?
It's a good deal, but IMO the frame and the wheels are much more important than the mechs and the shifters.
To that end, I'd spend the same £999 on the Planet X Carbon with SRAM Rival.
Don't know much about the current models but when I was looking at road bikes planet x stuff was all amazing value.
For what its worth I have a carbon boardman with rival (c2w) and love it. The rival groupset is nice and has been totally problem free. Never tried red but I can't see how a groupset would make as much of a difference as carbon over alu.
Would suggest saving up for some of their pro carbon wheels too, best bike upgrade I ever made
The alu is a handy little frame, I'd wager it'd give the Carbon a more than good run.
Im sure its a decent enough bike.
I might be more tempted to go for a boardman at that price. Or for a few quid more a Canyon.
