Hi

Thought i'd look to have a go at Zwift or similar.

I have an old Elite Muin turbo where the rear wheel is off and attaches direct to cassette on trainer. I have a Wahoo cadence sensor and heart rate monitor and have always just done Sufferfest videos using HR or perceived exertion.

But i note the minimum you need for Zwift or similar is speed and cadence sensors that link to ANT+ sensor on laptop. But as there is no rear wheel rotating, both of Wahoo's speed sensors use a magnet on wheel, any ideas if there is another way of being able register speed?

Depending on which version of the Muin you have, Elite made a little grey box called B+ Misuro, which provided the speed data and adjusted the resistance on some models. The more recent Muins had them installed from the factory.

Otherwise could you fit a magnet to the flywheel? Or the cassette and use a normal sensor? Might even be able to find the magnet the elite sensor uses. IIRC it has a really small effective wheel diameter to input to the app to compensate for the gearing in the flywheel.

Does the muin not report power directly or is it the earlier version that doesn't?

This review for the earlier one suggests a chainstay sensor that reads the fly wheel. https://www.bikeradar.com/reviews/training/indoor-trainers/resistance-trainer/elite-turbo-muin-trainer-review/

The other option would be crank or pedal based power meters.

The one I have just bought came with a Bluetooth transmitting "box" that reports cadence and speed. From the manual, it definitely looks like they anticipated it as an add-on and not standard when it first came out.

I'm still trying to see if it needs to transmit to an app or software that will interpret it the speed/resistance against a curve and provide a power figure. It works with Zwift, but whilst my bike computer recognises the turbo, it doesn't seem to want to connect as a power meter.
