I've read a load of good reports about Specialized's warranty, mostly trouble free compared to others. Anyway it got me thinking, around 99/00 I bought a Stumpy FSR brand new and used it for a good few years, probably around 06/07 I stripped it to store it a bit easier and when removing the BB it picked up on the frame threads and ripped it a bit on the way out. I was a bit pissed at the time as there was no evidence at all of any lube/antisieze being used and had been fairly rattled in. At the time a warranty claim never came into my head at all and I just cursed my bad luck and stuck it in the cupboard. But lately I've saw more people successfully sort things like this out.

So my question is am I chancing it thinking I can now do something about it after so long? Or within my rights seeing as its a lifetime frame warranty? Should I just suck it up, its really just a bit of an ornament now, I threatened to get the threads chased or helicoiled but TBH I probably wouldn't pay out for it and I'm unlikely to need/use it again, and I wouldn't feel comfortable selling it with either of these repairs done either. Can't say I'm still pissed of about it but I remember I was. Of course the easy answer is to give it a try and take it back to the shop where I got it but I thought I'd ask before I exhume the frame/BB and purchase details.

Try it. My 98 rockhoppers dropout cracked in about 05 and it was replaced with a brand new frame. That was steel tho, don't know if the alu frames only had a 5yr warranty. Ring specialized up, you never know.

Your BB lasted 7 years! Impressive.

Assuming its the orginal BB. call specialized. In the past when I was getting through a FSR frame every few months (1998 ish) they were very good.
