Heading out to South Africa in April, will be doing the usual Safari ect. with Family, but I'm trying to get a couple of days riding in.

Does anyone have any contacts/recommendations for bike hire/guides/tour providers?

Will be based around Cape Town.

Cheers,

email me. arachnidlover at aol dot com and I'll see if I can help you out. I have a few contacts down there. What kind of riding are you wanting to do?

I would be grateful for recommendations if you organise anything, as we'll be heading there again later this year. From memory last time we went, there are trails around the Cape Peninsular / Table Mountain (Tokai Forest) with a few operators providing hire and guiding services. There is also Dirtopia very close to the city. Further afield, a number of farms and Nature Reserves (like the Matroosberg Reserve) offer a network of trails.

The Table mountain trails have been having more than their fair share of trouble lately (a lot of riders being robbed of possessions and bikes).
Dirtopia is at Delvera farm just outside Stellenbosch, a bit of a drive but great if your out that way. If your out that way you'd probably be better heading for the Jonkershoek trails though if you fancy a bit more variety.
Closer to Cape Town, Tygerberg MTB club run some great trails in and around Bellville. You'd have to pay for day passes though as they are private trails. Koeberg nature reserve has some good "family friendly" trails too.........
Main thing to remember is never ride solo (even on the private trails).

Heard good things about http://www.welvanpas.co.za/index.php/leisure-activities/mountain-biking

Looking for fun/scenic XC/trails rather than any DL crazyness.

If as you say it's recommend not to ride alone I'd need to find a group/guide to hook up with.

As a past member of the Tygerberg MTB club, I could probably find some guys that would be willing to show a visitor around.
I've ridden solo in the past and not had any trouble but it's not recommended if you don't know the area.

When we went Kruger we did a mountain bike safari. We tracked a few animals and had a fantastic ride, led by our guide on his bike with a gun rack. I appreciate that Kruger is the other end of the country but maybe one of the closer parks offers something similar

POSTED 4 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST

This.

I was there last year and hired a road bike and an MTB from these guys.
I did a guided day around Tokai Forest, including bike hire it was about £100 or so and worth every penny 😀

Stellenbosch is supposed to have some fantastic riding but I've not tried it. I will be next time I'm there though.
