Today I plugged into my phone and listened to music whilst riding. Not on the roads, just around GT, so felt relatively safe.
I thoroughly enjoyed having a sound track to my ride.
If you ride and listen to music, what is your favourite soundtrack for the ride?
If you don't but can think of one, what is it?
Today I had for the climb up to the top - Danny Byrd Essential Mix.
For the way down a mix of jungle and dnb from 93-00 mixed by a friend.
finished off the day with the above and beyond 2011 essential mix for the cup of coffee and drive home.
I just "repeat one" and ride.
I love riding to oasis or the prodigy some days.
laterly i mostly like natural sounds.

This. Anything else is missing the point surely?
If I want riding and tunes I'll stick a DVD on or surf Youtube.

Part of the reason I ride is to get away from the constant hum/buzz/drone/music of the modern world, natural sounds are good for the soul - 'plugging in' whilst on ride would be a no-no for me.
Its surprising how quiet it can be on a night ride in the middle of the woods!
The theam tune to 'Indian Jones'. Its a mind set baby!!
Pounding heart, wheezing lungs, whooshing air, straining tyres.
Same as Captain Flash, but with added Ride of the Valkyries. ๐
I ride with sounds or not, 50/50.
When I have my sounds plugged in, I listen to...
Trivium
Morbid Angel
Nile
Prostitute Disfigurement
Death
Emperor
My Dying Bride
If I'm feeling a little more mellow...
Rage Against the Machine
Slayer
Metallica
Even some hip hop sometimes.
I think that if the speed of the music is right, it can help somewhat & of course, music is sometimes a very emotional things so angry music is sometimes great.
Each to their own, eh?
I don't ride with a mp3 player but usually end up with tracks I can't get out of my head. Usually tracks along the lines of venga boys, britney spears or any other tracks that I actually don't want to be thinking about and didn't know that I know!
Don't think I could ride listening to music either, not sure I'd concentrate on what I was doing
I found it focused me a lot more on what I was doing.
Plus I got to sing along to Baby D - Let me be your fantasy.
how on earth do you get through your day if you can't concentrate enough to ride a bike with a little background music?
Almost always just listen to the songs on my phone on random through bluetooth rather than actually pick tracks/albums.
I have usually found cyclists with headphones are far less aware of their surroundings than others. They certainly appear suprised when I appear right behind them and shout loudly after several minutes of attempting to communicate.
Use a bike in the gym if you want that sort of experience.
I usually listen to podcasts - Danny Baker or The Tuesday Club - rather than music when on my road bike.

I was waiting for the STW opinionated bods to come out!! Jeez guys, if you're gonna do it do it with a bit of humour will ya ๐
Anyway, never usually rode with music on, although i ride on the roads with music on, but i'm somehow detatched from it, so i tend to still be quite careful - although some might argue that i can't hear whats around me (screetching tyres, people calling me names, etc)
I tried riding with my iPod and found that I could not hear any of the music or recall what I had listened to. One of the things I like most about riding is how it totally focuses all my attention on the activity and every other part oft brain shuts down. It's really therapeutic .
I'll try music again. I reckon some noisy classical music like Wagner or the 1812 overture might work!
Above & Beyond podcast + Dave Pearce trance anthems.
Nowt like it to get your adrenalin going. I ride like the clappers when I've got music on, and chillout without it.
I find escapism comes quicker with music!
Quite often listen to podcasts like we're alive or Jake bible's the Americans. So intent on the stories I don't notice the hills as much...
I did ride on the road with headphones once - by way of an experiment. I found that it didn't actually make much difference to my "traffic" awareness at all. I think that's because there's usually so much wind noise on account of me cycling so fast.
Only ever listen when on road. Normally a book or chilled out music
If it's a big ride I tend to 'get back to nature' but if i'm riding home from school (teacher, not pupil) there's a 450m climb over 7km that i'm constantly trying to do faster. I find music really helps for that, especially as waypoints. You do have to change the playlist every once in a while though to stop you going mad...
