My current tyres are Schwalble Nobby Nic 2.25.  I ahve find them draggy and inconsistent grip.

Last night I put some old  Maxxis Crossmark 2's 2.1 on the bike and they rolled much faster, were more predictable but I missed the extra volume.

What is the 26 tyre of choice at the minute (that isnt stupid money)

Ta

My 26er has a 2.4 Nobby Nic on the front and a 2.1 Spesh Ground Control on the back. The GC is a bit draggy so I'll be swapping it for a 2.25 NN soon 🙂

I just bought a couple of Dirty Dan Pacestar Evo 2.00 for winter muddyness from Merlin @ less than £20 each

I prefer the narrower tyres as they cut into the gloop and these weigh in at less than 500g each so should be fairly responsive

Bontrager XR3 or 4 is my default answer. They're fairly large for their stated size

What compound are the current NNs? I've found pretty much the opposite of what you say, running trailstar on the front, pacestar on the rear (soft/speed in the addix compounds). I run MM on the front of the 29ers in gloop, it seems to work well and is a bit but not too draggy even running it at both ends in soft/trailstar compounds.

I have a magic Mary on the front and it's probably a bit overkill for me but a really good tyre and a rock razor on the back which I really like.

I use 2.25" Maxxis Beavers front and rear on my hardtail.

They roll and grip well, bought a set for last winter and ended up keeping them on the bike all year.

Decent volume for a 2.25 tyre, only available from Germany last time I bought some though - 39 Euro's
