Just got some new flat pedals and I have to put the pins in myself, humph!
So ... should I attempt to grease the pins?
Thank you so much!
No, just screw them in.
Thank you solamanda!
If you do, put the grease on the threads not the pins ๐
Might be worth using some loctite?
I bought my new pedals off MrPyekid on Thursday. Showed me you have to put some gunk on the thread bits and also they came with a syringe. There is a tiny screw you unscrew with an L thingy and you syringe the oil or whatever into that hole. So yeah, glad I bought them off him otherwise I'd never have learnt that. I forgot to ask what kind of gunk you have to syringe in but hey ho. At lest they look nice!
That's a bit off C_G, which brand?
You won't need to grease the pin threads as you're unlikely to remove them. Remember to do the axle thread though, or you'll need a hammer at some point...
Don't bother with greasing. Don't put them in too tight, especially if they screw in from the top, or you'll never get them out when they are bent and bu**ered and need replacing
Thank you so much for all the replies ๐
I did read the instruction leaflet, no mention was made of greasing either pins or pedals.
I have always greased seat posts, pedals etc etc.
cha****ng - Straitlines and, shock horror, they do not have sealed bearings ๐ฟ
Depends on the pedals, Grub screws on Shimano MX30's add some light grease to get knackered grubs out.
Studs-V8/12s etc don't need grease.
If you do then remember that you don't need as much torque to tighten and watch you don't overtighten and strip the thread.
i've had a nice set of pink straightlines for over a year now, not lost a pin either, just put them in as i got them, no grease.
and the bushings are still fine, you don't always need sealed bearings, which means you can have either thinner pedals, or fatter axles which won't bend as easily.
