Sorry can't help mine came from bang good - they no longer do the protected 18650 batteries though. Anyone got a recommended source for those? Sorry for the hijack.

you don't need protected, in fact better with none protect 3400 mah from Torchy via UKVapes £16.99 for x2. Then simply charge with a nitecore V4.

Unprotected don't just cutoff, but fade over time so best for night riding.

With that box could you pop new batteries in mid ride?

yeah but only if 18650, although the runtime with x4 3400mah is around 3.5 hours on full, 6 hours on medium!

Efest batteries are pretty well trusted in the e-cig industry.

If anyone wants in on a group order, I might get a load in

Have a look on their site and see what takes your fancy and I'll put an enquiry in

Same goes with battery boxes

I've got a a few of them on different bikes, I only use protected cells, (3100 & 3400mah) the larger ones are a tight fit mind, the run time is insane compared to the battery that came with my Solarstorm

I picked mine up from a guy on ebay in Manchester a few months ago and he had a container full of lights and boxes

---- hes not on ebay anymore ? but i have this email....
puresystems@yahoo.co.uk may be worth a shot

ps i payed £45 for 3 boxes and a charger

Yes but if you let those batteries fade a little too much they will not recharge Lithium ions dont like to get totally empty

Chris - I don't think my emails are getting through (I've tried 3 different ones) - do you have another email other than the one you used a couple of weeks ago?

I tried to order those batteries and they were out of stock. I linked to the alternative offered by banggood (they don't seem any different in my limited knowledge) in the 1st post on p5 of that thread.

I've one of these battery boxes, bought off a guy on here a while back when he bought a few in a group buy.

I've some blue trust fire 18650's that I've had for a few years now bought from DX. I've no idea if they are protected or not.

Am I ok to charge the battery's in the box using my magicshine charger or am I best to charge them all individually?

Thanks

That first link on asbrooks post is identical to the solastorm one I got.
It's big and clunky, but I really like being able to sue trustworthy 18650 batteries and a proper charger (I use the nitecore one).

you don't need protected,

You really do with these cases, they have no in-built over discharge protection. You discharge below 3.7 to 3.6V and you will likely ruin the battery. Also protects from overcharging too, though this is less important as the wall charger will do this.

Just picked up the battery boxes and lights ......

[img] [/img]

I also got some spare cable and connectors so I can make a Y splitter and run 2 lights off 1 box for shorter rides

Its not a good seal on the box though I heard?

So as long as I don't let the light cut out, and be wary when its down to 1 bar?

Also what charger? I'm in the process of returning a Nitecore I4 to Amazon due to fault lights.

The Efest Luc V4 gets mixed reviews and no one knows what version they are stocking

My new Eagletac protected batteries fit fine but I do have some old Panasonic batteries that are a tight fit and just about seal

The guy from pure had a load of battery boxes but not only a few lights left (I bought most of them)

I actually bought some of these when I was having charging problems with the cheapo Chinese light bought of ebay.

http://www.dx.com/p/genuine-panasonic-18650-3100mah-rechargeable-battery-with-protection-board-green-pair-121444#.VAYetPldWSo

I never used them, the charger was the issue. A new charger sorted and no problems since.

I may buy a box for them this year as they are higher capacity so should last longer on full.

Womp, I'd hate to be coming in the other direction to you. Instant sun tan! 8)

Womp what kind of chargers has he got? How do you rate the XT40 compared to the SSX2? XT40 gets bad reviews and poor thermal layout crit here...

I've only done a quick test in the garden but it's certainly brighter than the SSX2, prob about the same when the XT40 is on medium and SSX2 is on high

The ones I have are XM-L2 U2 so should run cooler than than some of the other options (not sure how that translates in the real world)

I'll try and pop one apart to see if they are the same as in your link or if they have changed anything this year

As for chargers it's a solar storm 4 channel charger, I'll take some more pics of it when I take the XT40 apart

I'll enquire about the boxes shortly and put feelers out for the batteries and chargers.

Out of interest, do flat top 18650's work with these boxes, or do they need button top?

Hmmm dug mine out for first time this year and battery has been on charge for ages now:'(

Looks like I'd be interested in a box and set of batteries.
