We went out for a road spin around Fife. Cruising at over 30mph with the tailwind. 4mph back over the Lomonds from Falkland with huge crosswinds, heading back west was hardcore into the full force of the wind.

What was it like in Perthshire?

Al - I thought you'd have picked up on my use of the word "winner".

Is disappoint.

I wouldn't want to burst your racing bubble.

Sportive riders are all losers to me ๐Ÿ˜€

I actually did a Road race near Gisburn today ......BC points and everything on offer. Hilly , hard , fast (and not that windy actually). Rolling roadblock, motorbike outriders.

There were a load of people doing some other event as well in the opposite direction. I think that was a sportive. Didn't loook much like our event though. Not sure who their 'winner' was.

(we've done this before haven't we)

Was great fun actually. Nice team work from a variety of riders coming together to work with each other to battle the heawinds, and nice and fast on the way back with a great tail wind. Didn't notice the rain after a while. Well done to all who took part ๐Ÿ™‚

Twas a good day considering the forecast. And at least the (quite considerable) tail wind was on the way back in. How the fast guys did it in that time is beyond me!

Great atmosphere and lovely to see so much local support after all the negativity surrounding it over the years.

The headwind and driving rain on the outward leg past Lochs Tummel and Rannoch was a bit brutal but after the turn, what a tailwind! It even dried up a bit for the Shiehallion descent. Beautiful course on mostly singletrack roads, plenty evidence of proper organisational skills and tons of enthusiastic support. That was my first Etape (on a borrowed road bike too) but won't be my last. Top event, well done to everyone involved.

One of my colleagues did it and said the section into the wind at Loch Rannoch was horrible, especially as there weren't any groups forming up. When he did end up riding with others then most weren't willing to take a turn on the front. I think he did about 4:45

Cruising at over 30mph with the tailwind
I bailed on my ride yesterday due to struggling into the wind at about 16kph, and on occasion, blown to a halt. Turned round and freewheeled at 40kph+ which was a bit unsettling!
