Me. 8:14.

I really didn't want an earlier one as it's going to be an early enough start for me as it is. Any earlier and it would make it very difficult.

My girlfriend is on an 8:45ish start, she's quite grumpy about it 'cos she isn't a slow rider. Seems like putting down a realistic time is not the way forward and she should have been more optimistic!!

I don't have an entry for the 3rd year, so will be hunting around to see if anyone has one they want to shift on (HINT HINT 😀 )

6.07 Blue. Seeing as I'm riding there at about 4.30 in the morning it seems, it'd better not rain.

I did it in 2014 and had to stop in a tube station at about 5am to put on even more waterproof gear. Roads were busy even then with riders heading up to Stratford.

Do they give you the little tracker doobries like in the marathon? My wife just worked out how early the start is, and now wants to track from the living room

Last year there was a live tracking app on iOS, although it was a little hit and miss.

Black Wave F for me. Start time 8.38.

What exactly is this Wave malarkey ?? Wave open 7.14. Wave close 7.49

Does this mean you are standing in a wave by 7.49 for an hour ???

yep. basically turn up and get sheparded into a fenced off area. Then slowly make your way to the start then at 8:38 you're off. I would assume though you can turn up just before the wave closes.

What estimated times did you mofos put down to get these decent start times? I put 5 hours and I'm way back at 7.30am. Gagh

I put 6.5 hours. 8.38.

So the faster the rider the closer to the front. All the slowest at the back ? Don't quite get the logic of that tbh?

I put 6-6.5 hours, and start at 8:13.

@ paul: It does make sense from a H&S point-of-view, as it means the faster riders don't have to do as much overtaking.

My training suggests I could probably do 5-5.5 hours, but I've never done one of these things before; plus, it would be difficult for me to get there much earlier.

I have done 100 miles before on a course with much more climbing. 6 of us rode for 80 miles as a group then I was solo last 20 when they dropped off but I ended at 5.50...... I've been ill recently for best part of 3 months so fitness is a bit off so I was guessing 6 1/2 hours.

I take the point ref faster riders having less to overtake, but surely in effect the fast riders at the front gradually getting slower leaves a big gap in the middle and theoretically the slower riders a the back means a gap in the middle lol

It's hard to overstate the draft effect of that many cyclists. When I did it I 2014 (which was the typhoon year) I averaged 34kmph - id never ridden a bike anywhere near that fast before that.

I'm banking on it 😀

I always ride on my own, so it'll be nice to have some shelter for a change.

7:03 start time for me this year.

Did it in 4:59 last year (predicted 5:30 this year as expect I won't be as fit).

It's hard to overstate the draft effect of that many cyclists.

This... I've averaged 20mph on rides before, but short blasts on my own, or 30 miles with a group all sharing the workload, never on anything that long. The first 50 miles is near enough pan flat, you'll get half way round way quicker than you can imagine! I got to the 50 mile point at 23mph avg last year!!!

That and the fact you don't have to stop at every single junction and set of lights!

I did it in 2014 as well and comfortably got round in sub 4hrs (the route was cut to 85 miles that year due to the weather) and that included a good 10 mins or so of stoppage when a mate crashed. Other than that we stopped once at the final feed for less than 2 minutes.

First hour we averaged 26mph, that got throttled back after the crash though.

Can anyone advise in what size rucksack will fit into the kit bag they give you? I need something that will fit some shoes, casual shorts, T-shirt, fleece etc.

I've just noticed that there is a Gel Point at 95 miles ! Hardly seems worth it for just 5 miles !

6am Blue for me too.

The bag is pretty big, will take shoes, shorts, tshirt, fleece etc no problem.

If it is like previous years the volunteers hold out gels for riders to grab at that one as they ride by, only 5 miles to go but a welcome little boost for the finale

The problem is I need to ride the 5 miles from the drop-off to the start, so need to carry stuff in a rucksack, so that will need to go in the bag as well. At the moment, I just have a 28L one.

Why?
Just fill up the drawstring bag with what you need. It's a reasonable size, easily enough for some warm clothes to ride to the start and to pick up afterwards.

I rode 10 miles from my parents house up to the start wearing full waterproof gear, ditched most of it into the bag then collected it at the finish.

Do you get the kit bag beforehand then? I assumed you got it when you got to the start venue on the day.

You get a drawstring kit bag that you then put on a lorry and it takes it to the finish where you can collect it.

I've just read through the programme and you collect the kit bag when you sign in at the Excel centre.

I put down 6hrs 30 as my expected time, and got an 8.31am start time (fine with me)

Time on my Garmin was 6hrs 40 last year, my only ambition is the beat that.

My buddy who I'm riding with has a different colour and an 8am start.
We're hoping he can duck into a later pen, and I can sneak into an earlier one to shorten the gap.

I'm looking forward to, and dreading it in equal measure.
I've ridden a lot more this year than I had by this point last year (half as much again) but yet again not done enough long rides.

I did 72 miles a week ago, and felt OK afterwards, will try and do another of similar distance before the big day.

The weight loss hasn't exactly gone to plan either, but I should be a few kilos lighter than last year, which has got to help.
I'm sure i'll end up having a 'tactical' walk up Leith Hill again...

•Start Area: Pink
•Wave: C
•Wave Load opening time: 05:57
•Wave Load closing time: 06:32
•Start Time: 07:14

My fastest century is 5:45, and I was a bit fitter then. I'm hoping the draft effect and flattish course will have me slightly quicker.

As for the drawstring bag, I'm wondering if I need to bother? I'll take a packable shell which I could wear to the start (I'm riding about 10 miles from a friend's house)then shove in my jersey pocket.

I wouldn't bother with the kit bag if you're riding back from the finish. Shell plan sounds good. I went for the bin bag and bin it plan. There's a bit of hanging around at the start, but you can ride straight on home(/friend's) from the finish.

I've got a train journey from Victoria afterwards and I don't really want to sit on the train in sweaty/wet clothes, so I'll be using the kit bag for some gear to change into.

I may also hang around London for a bit, so some spare clothes would come in handy for that as well.

As already mentioned in here - you will be amazed how fast you go on this, with the combination of the bunch and the closed roads. I am doing well if I can average close to 20mph on any ride by myself, and I was quietly hoping I'd get under 5 hours for the Ride100 in 2015 on that basis. I got 4h19m, which I was staggered by - 23mph average for the ride.

@mikey74:
You pick up everything on the Saturday at Excel. Drawstring bag, all rider numbers, a whole load of useless advertising crap, a few gels and there's also a bit of an expo area where you can buy stuff. In 2014 they were selling waterproofs by the hundreds due to the forecast atrocious weather!

Then on Sunday when you ride up to Stratford, you can wear some additional clothing, use lights etc, ditch all that into the bag before you start (along with whatever post-ride gear you have in it) and then collect it at the finish.

Hint: there are 30,000 identical bags there and it can take a long time checking through all the numbers stuck to them to find yours. Try wrapping some ribbon or coloured tape onto it. 🙂

Thanks 'legs. Yes, I saw that when I looked through the magazine again.

Good tip, by the way, thanks.

Possible silly question alert...is there anyway to register without going to London in the days before the event??
It's a touch inconvenient....!!

Is everyone sorted for the weekend then? I went to Excel yesterday afternoon, easy registration and then a quick wander round the stands. Not much there although Evans had a huge area of random bits and pieces to sell.

This time tomorrow I'll already have been riding for 20 minutes. Slightly scary thought given my current levels of wakefulness...
