I'm going to Wales at the end of the month, with family, and we're going to be camping in Beddgelert Forest. As well as doing the usual CyB, Penmachno etc I've always wanted to ride up and down Snowdon (obviously weather permitting). Anyone got any advice as to which trails are the best/most rideable, bearing in mind that I'll be doing it solo?
or buy these excellent guides https://shop.bike-fax.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=28
Up the Llanberis path, Down either Snowdon Ranger or Llanberis . don't forget summer curfew, between 1p am and 5pm
There's a voluntary agreement that bikes don't go up or down Snowdon from 1st May to the end of September between 10.00am and 17.00pm, so you'll need to make an ealry start. We did it a few weeks ago and we went up and down the main tourist path (Pyg Track?). We set off very early and the path ws already pretty busy on the descent (around 10.00-10.30 in the morning)
No not the Pyg track. It's veeeerrryy ropey for bikes and not in a good way. LLanberis up and ranger down. See the STW vimeo vid.
wait til mid summer (timewise) and go up after the ban...we were at the gate for 5pm, at the top by 645pm and back at the tents in nantberis by 745pm...plenty of time for beers etc
best bit aboutthe evening is you see all the walkers coming down so you get a clear downhill...better than am when you'll be against yhe tide
Thanks for all the advice. I'll leave it until a summer morning or evening. Probably best to do it with a buddy or two as well, having seen some of the pics and videos!
