So having just serviced my shock and refitted the Torx bolts holding the pin on the mounts snapped after some really mild riding.
In retrospect I'd fitted this back in a hurry... probably didn't line it up left/right...
Whyte don't seem to stock the rear one so I ordered through a local dealer.

Going back to the ride I'd done a pretty small 2' drop-off and there was a loud pop on the rebound.(not compression).. I'd thought this was a pinecone or something pinging off.
Anyway... continued riding the bike ... and got it home and literally just lay the bike down and then a few seconds later a PING.... then I thought a bird dropped something ... a few minutes later I worked out the bolt had "exploded" .. found the bits and the bolt had sheared off inside the pin.
I wasn't expecting this but it came out relatively easily ... on the other side the mushroom washer thing was all the way into the pin... which I think then means the pin itself isn't supported in the frame mounts.
I found two old bolts that more or less fit... but they don't fit into the "mushroom" at the bottom perfectly and I'm also wondering if the internal thread might be damaged... but its back together and working...
I am however wondering if I'm going to die (or seriously damage the frame)... should I wait for the replacement??? Â etc.
How much of an idiot would you feel if you ride it with a bodge and knacker the frame? Up to you to weigh up the risk.
Your right ... it's really not worth the risk of knackering up the frame especially when i can ride another bike.
In retrospect I think I was really lucky anyway... (glass half full perspective)...
Yes, sounds like a potential bike wrecking failure, not to mention body wrecking. You were probably lucky
