Just broke my SRAM SX 12 RD on the trail. I would replace it with NX if I could find one but none seem available.

I believe Shimano SLX 12 RD will work with my SX shifter? Is that right?I might be able to get holdof one of hem.

Thanks for any advice.

I`m running a shimano deore 12pd mech on a sram shifter (dunno which variant) and it works so much better then the sram mech i took off. so yeah a SLX mech will work.

It should do, but might not be absolutely perfect. Why not another SX? Are they rubbish?

I'm not keen to put another SX RD as I haven't been too impressed by the shifting so thought I'd put a NX one on fairly soonanyway. However as the SX is now busted I need to get something sorted and was fairly sure I'd read on here that SLX would work OK but I just wanted tocheck on that.

You’ll probably be ok with deore or Slx - there’s meant to be a small difference but if you keep the Sram shifter then it’s pulling the cable the expected amount for the cassette spacing.

I actually prefer my gx Eagle shifting over my xt 12 speed shifting though. I think SX is meant to be very cheaply made and NX only a little bit better. So I’d go Shimano or gx Eagle depending on what you can find in stock / cost.

Thanks for the feedbacks. I've pushed the button with Merlin so hopefully all will work well.  In fact, I've just seen, on the Merlin reviews for it there was someone who'd done the same in replacing a SRAM SX with SLX and was very pleased with the shifting.

Can confirm it works. My nephew's bike came with SX and I couldn't get the gears to work properly out of the box. Tried everything - no joy. Tried a spare XT M8100 mech I've got and it worked perfectly.

So I can confirm both that Shimano 12 Spd works fine on an otherwise Sram 12 Spd set up, and that the SX mech is utter pish. Almost entirely plastic, and all the pivots are sloppy out of the box.

Bikeshop worker here and we always replace 12 speed Sram rear mechs with Shimano unless specifically asked not to . Better shifting , cheaper and at the moment more available . GX and above seem fine , NX is pretty cheesy and SX is totally rubbish , especially when you consider you can get them on £5000 E-Bikes .

Just to close this one off.

I fitted the SLX 12 RD this morning on my all SRAM setup - SX shifter, chain, chainring, cassette (NX 11-50). All went well, seems to shift well.

The lower end priced SLX quality looks far better than the rather poor SRAM SX RD.

Thanks for all the inputs.
