Has anyone seen the new slx gear yet? looks pretty sweet im thinking about upgrading i like the look of the clutch on the rear mech.

Im thinking of converting from 3x9 to 2x10

i was wandering if i do this would i be able to get the shorter cage derailleur?

im not really sure what gear ratios to go for.

the front chainring options are:
40/28
38/24
38/26

the slx rear cassette come at:

11-36
11-34

Any reccomendations of combos to go for?

thanks in advance for your thoughts 🙂

the slx gs + is the only sensibly priced clutch rear mech (med cage), i just got one from germany. as for ratios, depends what you ride. for most, 38/24 11-36 would be good.

seems pretty cheap at £67.99?

can you just get these clutch mechs and connect them to your current 10 speed shifter? or do they need a specific shifter?

They work with normal 10 speed MTB shifters.

I'd like to know too! I've seen Bike-components.de have the long cage here but I need the medium for a 2x10 setup I'm building.

I'd have 38/26 with an 11-36 cassette. I never run out of gears with 36/24 and an 11-34t cassette on 9 speed, and this is on a 33/34lb 160mm bike that gets ridden everywhere.

Hey thanks for all the advice sound like preferred cassette is 11-36... the advantage of the 11-34 would be smoother gear shifting,

could 11-34 up back and 24/38 be good up front.. to my thinking it would still give a good gear for climbing and still have a big ring up front for cranking down the fire roads?

In regards to the shifters apparently you do need new shifters for the clutch mech is the gear ratios are different.

Shimano said it should be available over here now. some website have it up but dont seem to have it in stock madison have it on there site now so hopefully we will start seeing it stocked soon 🙂

You don't need new shifters. I didn't notice a difference in smoothness between 11-34 and 11-36. 18 Bikes have the Clutch mechs in stock, not sure about cranksets though.

Thats interesting to know might get the 11-36 then... unfortunatly i will need shifters as only running 9speed at the moment... i might get the direct mount ones and adapter for hope brakes.

i just looked on bike discount for shortcage deraileur someone sent but it wasnt with the clutch... however both the sgs and gs with the clutch both say long cage in description but isnt the gs the short/medium cage one? perhaps they just mislabeled it?

The shadow + is £43 on bike discount, XT is £20 more, but Zee is £45 and tempting me as I've got 1x10.

I'm running a Zee rear mech and Zee shifter (both from Bike Discount) on my bike and it's very nice. You should have no problems with using a SLX shifter.

In fact the Zee rear mech is virtually identical to the 2013 SLX rear mech with the exception of the cage length and shadow plus switch. The compatible parts (which is almost all of them) are only coloured/branded differently. My Zee bits came with 2013 SLX instructions in the box.

sorry yeah this one
http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k1197/a72809/slx-10-speed-rear-derailleur-rd-m675-gs-shadow-plus.html

description says long cage, but title is correct, they send a medium!

about £44

i didn't want 10 speed but it ended up about the same cost as 2 x 9 (doing a new bike build). i don't like shimano 9spd it doesnt shift well. SRAM 10 sp clutch stuff is too expensive or i'd have got that.

or Zee, i went for SLX as it allows double or single ring up front, more versatile 🙂
