[#5399023]

Hi all,

Bought a giant trance 1 for my misses and needed to replace the drive train. Never even thought about it just grabbed 10 spd everything.

Problem is its only got a 9 spd cassette!!

Dim but these things happen!!

I'm certain the XT m781 SGS is only compatible with 10 spd cassettes, anyone know a way round it?

Cheers,
John.

no it won't work. If you think about it the space for the cassette is the same for 10 speed as 9 speed so the only way to fit the extra gear in is to reduce the spacing.

That's what I thought may be the case, heard somewhere about err outing the pullies but jib that.

New bloody cassette it is.

Cheers for coming back to me ๐Ÿ™‚

you could try and mount something to alter the pull ratio but it would be much easier to just buy a new cassette.

You've got the parts you may aswell just try it, if not stick a 10 speed cassette on your shopping list.

I thought the chain would be fine, it's only running dual on the front

no, sorry but the spacing is different on the 10 speed and 9 speed

No need to replace front chainrings, though.

cassette is probably well worn anyway if you're needing to replace the rest (presumably you haven't done so before or you'd have known it was 9sp)
