Hi
As soon as it gets wet, my feet are all over the place on the pedals. Currently got Shimano MX30s with the short pins and a set of Vans shoes. Got some long pins now for the pedals, will this help with grip or should I look at getting a set of MTB specific shoes?

Been looking at the 5:10 lows as I don't like SPD's, anyone got any experience with them or could suggest an alternative?

Thanks

5:10s are fantastic, love mine. Holding up well to a summer of every-day use too. They do seem to collect a lot of grit - only downside I can think of!

5 10s are good but certainly not neccesary... I've never used those particular pedals but they don't look so different from my wellgo MG1s, and I've never had a problem with slipping, not when wet nor muddy or even in the snow. (I wear Vans most of the time, I find them comfier than my 5 10s and far better off the bike, and the reduced grip rarely makes any real difference).

Not all Vans are the same though, the ones with the waffle soles are very grippy as they wrap well around the pins. But then again, I've ridden a few times lately in my old Cat trailboots, when I've been working in the garage and just fancied a quick spin, and never had any issue with grip either.

TBH I think a lot of it is in the footwork... You want to be keeping the pedals weighted, and avoiding pushing sideways across the pedals, to keep everything in place. Also staying nice and loose so that bumps don't knock you off the pedals. Though you might be doing that already of course.
