Ignoring your 1.5 request. How about some big apples. Damned tough and fast, massive traction too.

Big Apples were what I was going to suggest. Or Marathons in 28" if you want a "normal" commuting tyre.

I've run Specialixed Nimbus 700 x 28c on my 29'er no problem!

get the armadillo tire for puncture resistance and you are good to go, will even light off-road like fireroad and canal paths, or dry singletracks through the local woods

I got a Schwalbe Silento 29er for the front of my 69er, like it a lot so far. Have the same (but 26" and slightly fatter) on the rest and they seem very good so far.

From Next Day Tyres, for reference.

you want marathon plus, bomb proof, they've got a reflective strip around the tyre too, useful feature.

So have the Silento, but they're cheaper ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fat Franks (small side of 2.0") in Cream for Tarty Summer FunTimes

Vittoria Hyper randonneur 35c for saving a pound a wheel over the Fat Franks.

[optimism]Franks might be going back on the commuter when the guards come off[/optimism]
