[Closed] Singlespeed conversion problem chainring won't fit crank

Got all the bits together to convert my hybrid to SS, only to find that the 42T thorn ring I got to stick on my Deore crankset won't fit in the middle position. It's the right BCD (104), but the inner position on the spider has a little lip that means it won't go. It fits in the outer position OK but I'd really rather have it in the middle for chainline reasons.

So, does anyone know of any 42T SS rings (preferably steel) that will definitely fit the middle position on a 104 BCD Deore chainset?

How big is the lip? had similar on some old cranks and got the file to it...

I did think about that but I'm a lazy man! It's probably only about 1mm- less than 2mm for sure.

I had to take a file to my Thorn chainring to get it to fit the outer position of Saint cranks where it interfered with the fat crank arm.

That's looking like the best bet at the moment, I don't have a vice so could turn into a PITA though... Just come across some chainring bolt spacers but not too keen, sounds like there'd be a lot of load on the bolts alone?

in the time it's taken you to post all this you could have filed that bit down, done this to plenty of chainrings/cranks to get to fit without issue

If I was at home to be doing it, which I'm not.
