Thinking SLX cranks - 36t ring in middle ring position/bash in the 44t place and some kind of thin "Bash" ring on the inside like a chainring sandwich?

Sounds like a lot of weight to be adding to a bike that you were trying to remove weight from not long back

I cant remember the name of the inner ring bash /guide but wouldnt an Ngear jumpstop be easier and lighter?

Sounds a bit like the old MRP type ones. I use a Blackspire DSX, no inner ring but the backplate does the same job and the bottom roller help minimise jumping too. Pretty light also.
