Of everything you've ever spent money on MTB wise what was your absolute best purchase?

Mine is trips to the Alps worth every penny - what's yours?

2 months in Whistler. Hopefully going back for a bit again next year. If I have to pick a bit of gear then probably 661 Kyle Straits, they've saved my knees from getting messed up quite a few times.

Probably SPDs.
I can do without gears & suspension, but clipless pedals transformed my riding and I'd never be without them.

Twentyfour12 solo entry.
It was the perfect excuse to get a lot of riding in.

Yeah think I'm going to have to say SPDs (with winter boots)

Mud-Xs are a close second at the moment.

No it has to be lights, since the thread says 'single' thing, it's a the one bit I wouldn't be without now.

Portable pressure washer

Clean bike = less faff and problems = better riding experience

Some cheap rigid steel forks and the following return to simplicity. They reminded me what riding was like when I started and I'm having more fun than I did before.

More recently, some proper wide rims - P35s. ~18psi in an Ardent 2.4 29er front tyre on that rim is a very different ride to a normal 19mm inner width rim and the 30+ psi you need to stop it rolling.

You made it from day one by buying stuff to ride from Aldi 😉

It's quite a long list

Er just re-read what you wrote, sounds like Darwin might come into play, SPD's in winter boots for night riding?
And I missed that Franki, not to worry he's on it now..

Proper weight spring in my forks! OTB fear had stunted my riding.

My Carrera Kraken. It wasn't very good but it got me mountain biking, then it was a parts mule for the next bike, then some of the parts went off to mates' bikes, and now I built a rigid XC bike around the frame. Never had such mileage from any other £200 spend.

'95 Kona Cindercone, 1st proper Off-Road bike, had a British Eagle which was good at the time but the Kona knocked spots off it.

He's on it under another category, my lights rock, you're lucky I let you see them. If you keep on I'll put up a boring video of them which you won't be able to help yourself, will watch and waste more valuable minutes of your life....

I retract Z1s. I'm not sure I can put it into monetary terms, but getting properly fit has transformed my ridding.
