Anyone have SILT MTB wheels? I am looking at their carbon XC set at £800 weighing a little over 1300g.
seen a couple of quite old threads about them which seem positive? Anything recent?
I have a 2023 specialised epic evo comp with stock wheels and I believe they’re over 2000g
Seem to work well. We put some Carbon AMs on my son's enduro bike and no complaints.
There was an issue with the free hub when we got them and Silt sorted super fast.
We managed to break one of them and they sent us a new rim straight away when we sent them a couple of photos. (As well as an email where they seemed surprised that we'd managed to break one and wondered how we'd managed. But a clumsy 15 year old getting cocky at Fort William seems to be able to break everything).
They are still going strong a couple of years later despite some pretty heavy use in Aberdeenshire and various other DH and enduro venues.
I'd certainly consider buying another set.
I got an aluminium XC rear wheel 23 months ago. Needed it urgently and it seemed pretty good. About 3 weeks ago whilst doing some maintenance I took the cassette off. The HG freehub body had been chewed up massively and the two steel anti-bite plates had both broken.
Raised it with them and they said it broke due to lack of maintenance. I'm not sure how a non-moving part, relative to the cassette, should be maintained.
Anyway needed to get it sorted so just bought another freehub. I'll be honest I was disappointed with the response.
Shame as other than that the freehub ring ratchet is good, if a little buzzy. But you can add some grease to make it quieter. The rims are fine and are true and I've never had to tension the spokes.
This is with a fat chuffer 14st riding it on a hardtail in the peak district, although I don't do anything mega gnarr I'm not the most finesseful of riders.

me too! Fitted with silt xc wheels for over a year now, but the alloy ones in my case. Now discontinued I think? Anyway, yes the stock wheels are bloaters. Lighter wheels have definitely livened things up.
As for silt wheels specifically, I’ve had zero issues, nice set of wheels. XD driver on mine (assume you will be too) and I’ve had no issues with that, and I’ve had the cassette on/off a few times.
If the stock wheels are like the chisel stock wheels its the hubs and spokes that are bloaters. The rims (assuming stout SL with 25mm ID) are actually quite light. With DT 350 hubs and Sapim D-lite spokes they can be built to around 1550g. If either of you have rims in VGC I may be interested in them.
We've got two sets of the XC alloys, one on each of the kids (13yr old national XC racer and an 11yr old) bikes and despite the eldest's best attempts there is nothing wrong with them at all.
Thanks for the replies so far, I saw they do a referral scheme for previous buyers. Anyone willing to sort me out? I think you just need to email them. 🤞 10% off would be nice.
Did you ever weigh the stock wheelset?
had the wider alloy ones on the hardtail for probably 5 years now and all good - needed some new bearing recently and local mechanic sorted them ok as I was conerned they needed a tool for the freehub ... would recomend
I've the XC carbon ones for about 18 months. Not done huge mileage, but happy with them. Tubeless was very easy as I recall. Good value for the weight.
I've got a set of the 1300g gravel wheels from sister company Scribe Wheels (same owner). I've had them 2 years. I hammered them at the Gralloch gravel race in 2023 and the Dirty Reiver, also in 2024 at the Houffalize UCI race in Belgium...it was like mountain biking, very rough.
I've had zero issues. Same bearings, free hub is not at all chewed despite putting a lot of power through them (he says himself 🙄 ).
the free hub is noisy...but I like it for warning walkers of my arrival 😉
100% recommend. PS a mate has the 1300g XC wheels and he also had no problems.
