Going to be in Ambleside this weekend. Looking for some options for some quality longer distance XC type routes. Don't mind some tech and hike a bike where there's good payback involved but the overall quality of the day is important. I live and ride in Aberdeenshire for comparison and I'll be on the wee bike, 120 travel front and rear. Thanks in advance.
Down into grisedale and do the standard loop there then back up via Hodge Close then finish down Loughrigg Terraceย
Years since I've done it so it may need a bit more clarity from someone else, but: head up Skelgyll Lane beside Ambleside MTN Rescue, head over to Troutbeck, up Garburn and down into Kentmere, have tea and cake, loop round to Stavely for more coffee and cake at Wilfs and then Dunns back to Troutbeck and back the way you came.
Dubbs Road not Dunns
What is 'longer distance?' How much distance or more importantly, elevation would you like?
The obvious answer is to head out on the other side of the lake through Claife and Grizedale, then back up via Tilberthwaite, Elterwater and Loughrigg. There are a lot of route options...

Half of this would be very good. Its rumoured you have a pub or cafe at the bottom of every decent so that gets my vote too.
Some good options so far so thanks to all for that. I'm confident I'll get a couple of quality days for sureย
