we're planning on an alpen cross this year, three of us.
a friend is building up his bike and is looking for a set of forks (going onto a 97-ish zaskar). i offered him an old set of manitou axels i have lying around and he said at 2.3kg they are too heavy.
can anyone recommend anything else?
bit worried as my bike currently comes in at 28lb with revs and will soon have a set of lyriks on. the pair of them will rip me on the climbs....
rigid Trigon full carbon? - about 550g
thanks, but looking for suspension forks. prob 80-100mm
Sids, surely?
Sids or Rebas (about 3.5-4 lbs)
Even my Z1 SL are lighter - 130mm and 1998gms.
Someone was selling Marzocchi XC Corsas in the STW Classifieds for £175 or so? 1.7Kg, so not too shabby for that price
jeebus, that is quite heavy, isn't it...?
even my revs come in at 3.85lb (1.75kg) and that's the all singing all dancing variety (dual air with pop-loc)
suppose it could lend him those for the trip.....
cheers druidh, but i'm in germany..... and he's a student (says i who is unemployed).
I agree with SIDs, apart from the fact that they will steer in a different direction to what you want to go!
Rebas if you can, or some Marzocchi Marathons?
Manitou R7 or minutes?!
New sid WC 1.4kg 32mm stancions stiffer than a Reba.
32mm stancions stiffer than a Reba.
Really?
new sids are stiffer than reba's matt...
but sid/reba from rockshox, corsa's from zocci, r7 from manitou, fox 100, or something along them lines.
air will be lighter than coil etc
I was assuming that with a 97 Zaskar and the offer of some Axels, new ones were out of budget...ASSumptions, eh?

Aye - hence me pointing out the 2nd hand Corsas
Marzocchi marthon race , 1350 grams ,5 settings and stiffer than a box of Viagra.
can be picked up for less than a ton
thanks boys, plenty ideas there.
yeah, budget is tight. student and new born.
again, thanks
J
If you want light and cheap, have a look for a decent pair of old SIDs on ebay. The older ones were silly light (not much over 1Kg), although rather noodly. The newer they are the heavier, but better and stiffer. Fork stiffness is over rated though.

these used to be my forks,
