SRAM, is it really pronounced "shram" rather than the more obvious (and easier to say) "sram" or is it just a case of Doug Hatfield and HB having trouble prounouncing "sr" sounds with their american accents?
It's a stupid name anyway...
Ess-Ram?
Schram?
Suram?
S.R.A.M.?
for me "sram" seems a perfectly normal pronounciation for how it's spelt.
got a mate who used to call it "Ess-Ram".. we've never had the best schools locally tho ๐
SRAM in Polish means I shit. Makes you wonder ๐
Is that the new Apple toilet app?
Sram it is then. You sure it's I shit in Polish and not aye shite in Scots/Polish.
I'd go for ess-ram.
Unless you're Dutch, in which case esh-ram.
I think one Scottish-wannabe is enough over here, I'll stay with pure Polish, I shit it is.
fair enough emm-arkie ๐Markie - Member
I'd go for ess-ram.
at last, someone who pronounces my name properly! ๐
actually, good point well made. I shall alter my ways.
just found this allegedly from the sram website (where I couldn't then find it):
Q: What does SRAM mean?R: SRAM is the conglomeration of our founder's [sic] names, Scott, Ray and sAM. The initials provided a simple way to come up with a corporate name that could be trademarked and directly translated into languages other than English. It is not pronounced S-RAM, SchRAM, or SkRAM. Just SRAM.
I hear Shimoto is better anyway.
If they want it pronounced Sram, they should spell it that way, not the all-caps SRAM.
It's these Americans, honestly.
Scott, Ray, and Sam could have been:
SSAY
or
SRCOTT
Or
Sorasa
Saraso
Rasosa
Amcottay
Ayamcott
Scoraysam
I'd have gone with Sorasa (Sore Racer).
Amcottay ftw
Always ess-ram for me. Don't know why, it just seems to make sense for something that isn't a word but just letters.
Could be my geeky computer background though. RAM, SRAM ๐
"sram" or "shram" just sounds wrong.
ok. Kay-enny whatever you say ๐
Maybe we should call it MARS? Gyro in bmx is written as Oryg.
Or Shimanot.
it explains on the sram website faqs that its pronounced as its written ie to rhyme with pram
here it is.........

On a similar point how does anyone pronounce Giro? I go for the possibly poncy gir-row, as in giro d'italia or is it gi-ro gyro, gir-o...
It is not pronounced S-RAM, SchRAM, or SkRAM. Just SRAM.
I think you'll find I'll pronounce it how the **** I want to.
I have it on good authority that it is pronounced Ess-ram
You're authority is wrong, and there's two explanations of that above.
On a similar point how does anyone pronounce Giro?
I'm a "Ji-row" kinda guy. But call it the Zhi-ro d'Italia.
Straight from SRAM's mouth:
of course its pronounced "shram".
i know this, it is fact.
yours sincerely, sean connery.
The company is American, so whatever they say about pronunciation is wrong anyway. ๐
Petula Clark, in Arshe, 1963.
i don't think i've ever uttered the word in public. if i did, i'd say "sachs"
Hairychested - MemberSRAM in Polish means I shit. Makes you wonder
'Chram' (pronounced with a 'sh') is slang for the male member in parts of eastern europe and caucuses, roughly translates as 'pecker' or 'johnson' depending on how american you are/n't.
Kona also sounds like a very rude word in portugese.
I expect the somewhere in the world, some of the names of Cove frames are actually nice greetings you'd say to your nan.
